Adam J. Marcum

Adam J. Marcum, of Marietta, Ohio, formerly of Reynoldsburg, Ohio passed away on May 22, 2015.  Adam was born on September 8, 1934 to Adam and Fonnie Marcum in Wayne County, West Virginia.  It is fitting that he would pass away Memorial Day weekend, as he was a veteran of the Korean War servi

ng from March 1952 – March 1955.  He served in the Army as a sergeant in the 13th Armored Infantry Battalion.  After the war, he worked at the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers in Huntington, West Virginia.

Later he moved to Columbus, Ohio to work for the engineering firm RS Fling and Partners, then secured a job at the Ohio Department of Transportation as a Structural Designer.  He was largely assigned to work on Ohio’s bridge designs, structure, and safety.

In 1972 he married Donna Joy Bennett Potter who preceded him in death August 18, 2014.  He was a deeply devoted husband who has missed his dear Donna every day since her death.  Adam attended church regularly and took on various church responsibilities. At East Livingston Baptist Church he served as a Deacon and later at First Baptist Church in Columbus he volunteered his time to assist with budgeting and accounting duties.

In 2012, Adam and Donna moved from their home in Reynoldsburg, Ohio to Marietta, Ohio to be near their daughters. These last three years were spent with an amazing group of caregivers who cared for Donna and Adam in their home and  loved them dearly.  Many thanks to Angie, Jean, Amanda, Tiffany, Marla, Mimi, Mandy, and Kim for caring for Adam like he was their own father.

Adam is survived by Donna’s children, Mark Bennett Potter (Tracy) of West Jefferson, Ohio, Marcia Potter Holschuh (Bill) of Marietta, Janet Potter Powell of Marietta, and Scott Bryan Potter (Jill) of Worthington, Ohio, grandchildren April (Pat) Deleon, Brooke Decker, Ashley Tucker, Carly Decker, Bryan Potter, Kristin Potter, Chase Potter, Scott (Nicole) Melin, Steve (Amanda) Powell, and  great-grandchildren Aidan, Bella, and Allie Deleon, Madison and Hailey Powell, Ian and Beck Melin, a step-son from a previous marriage, Eddie Margetos, and special family friend, Diane Greene.
