Alliston Paul Stewart, Jr.

Alliston Paul Stewart, Jr. 93, of Oak Grove Community, Marietta, passed away on December 31, 2016.  He was born October 2, 1923, in Flemington, WV, a son of Alliston Paul Stewart, Sr. and Marjorie Waller Stewart.
 
He served as a Marine in World War II where he fought in 3 major campaigns including Iwo Jima.  He retired from Kaiser Aluminum and worked as a custodian at Gilman United Methodist Church for 25 years where he was a member.  He was also was a member of American Legion Post 64 and VFW Post 5108.  On a regular basis, he would visit patients at the local nursing homes and hospitals.
 
On June 4, 1945, he married Hellen Pauline Stewart who preceded him in death August 29, 2010.  He is survived by one son, Paul Stewart III and wife Jeanne and one daughter, Kristin Stewart both of Marietta;  8 grandchildren:  Shelly Murphy and John, Bryan Stewart and Alexandra, Traci Shumar and Ralph, Jeff Stewart, Pauline Rooks, Charmel Glaspell and Mark, Bobby Bryant, Kyle Bryant and Elizabeth; 17 great grandchildren, 2 great, great grandchildren and 2 brothers, Richard Jean Stewart and Eleanor and Calvin Waller Stewart.
 
Preceded in death by parents, wife and 2 sisters and grandson Jeffrey Morgan Root.
 
Funeral services will be held on Saturday (Jan. 7) at 10:00 am at Gilman United Methodist Church with Pastor Diann O’Bryant officiating.  Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park with full military honors.  Friends may call on Friday at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home from 2-4 & 6-8.  Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.Lankfordhfh.com
