Arthur Allen Brokaw

Arthur Allen Brokaw, 81, died Monday, November 28, 2016 at Marietta Memorial Hospital in Marietta, Ohio.
 
Allen is survived by his wife of 57 years, Elizabeth “Libby” (Taylor) Brokaw; his son Barry Brokaw (Jill) of Cincinnati, his son Tod Brokaw of Vermilion, and his daughter Ann Brokaw (Laura) of Rocky River; grandchildren Eric, Andrew, Anna, Elise, and Henry; and many dear relatives and friends. He is preceded in death by his infant son, Joseph Allen Brokaw.
Born and raised in Holloway, Ohio, the son of Herman and Mary Edythe Brokaw, Allen graduated from Flushing High School in 1953. He served a 3 year tour in the Army during the Korean War and upon his return completed his undergraduate degree at Ohio University under the GI Bill.  He married Libby, his high school sweetheart, in 1959. Allen, Libby and children lived in several Ohio locations, Minnesota, Connecticut, and New Jersey as his career in the pharmaceutical industry progressed.  He spent a number of years as an Executive in the industry.  Allen and family settled in Marietta in 1979.
 
Allen and Libby were actively involved as members of Gilman United Methodist Church. In addition, Allen was involved in many service organizations.  He served on the Boards of the Marietta Health System, Easter Seals of Southeast Ohio, the O’Neill Senior Center, Family and Children First, and the Autism Center of Southeast Ohio.  Allen served as Director of Easter Seals and the Marietta Relay for Life (American Cancer Society) for a number of years. Most recently he was a founding leader and 8th grade mentor in the Building Bridges to Careers program and served as the Vice-President of the Glenwood Community Residents’ Association.  In 2015, Allen published his online book titled “Diabetic 121” as an informative and inspiring work to help diabetics of all ages manage their health. Allen encouraged those around him to reap the benefits of life-long learning, and worked tirelessly to inspire and improve the lives of others.
 
Visitation will be at McClure-Schafer-Lankford funeral home in Marietta on Friday, December 2, 2016, from 2:00-4:00pm and 6:00-8:00pm.  Funeral services will be at Gilman United Methodist Church on Saturday, December 3, 2016 at 1:00pm.  Graveside service will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, and reception open to all will be held at the church following the services.
