David Lee Matthews

David Lee Matthews, 63, of Lowell Ohio passed away Sunday, May 8, 2016, at Marietta Memorial Hospital after a brief illness.

He was born to Gale and Mary Matthews on May18, 1952, in Marietta Ohio. On June 30,1972, he married his high school sweetheart Patricia Ann Hughes of Lowell. They lived on their farm in Lowell where he enjoyed driving his tractors and working on the farm.
 
Dave graduated from Marietta High School in 1970 and afterwards he attended a Carpenters Trade School where he became a talented carpenter by trade. For the last 19 years he was employed by Harmar Place as the Maintenance Supervisor. He retired from Harmar Place in April of 2015.
 
He was an avid horse rider all of his life. He and Patty enjoyed traveling, camping and trail riding. Recently they enjoyed an 18-week riding trip to the western states. He and Patty particularly enjoyed their many cross county trail rides together in the mountains of Virginia and The Big Horn Mountains in Wyoming. These trips were shared with Dave's horses Cabayera and Shasha.  Dave was a member of the Ohio Horseman's Council and The Shilo Trail Riders club. He was awarded the 25,000 mile belt buckle award thru the State of Ohio for his trail riding miles.
 
He is survived by his wife Patty and their very special puppy Rosalee, his brother Michael of Marietta, his nieces Susan Matthews of Marietta and Melissa Brown (Russell) of Graysville OH, great niece Isabella Brown as well as several aunts, uncles and cousins and many special horse riding friends.
 
In addition to his parents Dave was preceded in death by his sister-in law Sandra Matthews.
 
Funeral services will be held on Thursday (May 12) at 10:30 am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home.  Family will greet friends at the funeral home on Wednesday from 2-4 & 6-8.   Messages of sympathy may be made at www.Lankfordfh.com.
