Donald L. Nicholson

Donald L. “Nick” Nicholson, 80, of Marietta passed away at 6:19 am on Thursday, July 6, 2017, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.  He was born on August 22, 1936, in Bens Run, WV, a son of Brooks and Evelyn Adams Nicholson.

Don retired from Chevron Chemical where he was a mechanic and had also worked for Hyde Brothers Printing and Ed Williams Radiator Shop.  Don was a 28 year charter member of the Devola Volunteer Fire Department where he served as Chief for 10 years.  He enjoyed spreading the holiday spirit by playing Santa Claus. Don also liked to do woodworking, traveling and camping, supporting and watching his children and grandchildren’s school and athletic events and performances.  He was a Scout Master for 12 years for Boy Scout Troop 231.

In June, 1956, he married his wife of 61 years, Ann Ellis.  Ann survives with their son and daughters, Rick (Michele) Nicholson of Marietta, Annette (Bill) English of Toledo, Denise Cavitt of Marietta; grandchildren:  Christopher (Kristina) Nicholson of Reynoldsburg, OH, Matthew (Erica) Nicholson of Columbus, Daniel (Courtney) Nicholson of Marietta, Sarah English of Tallahassee, FL, Andrew (Samantha) English of Rossford, OH, Sadie Cavitt of Marietta; great grandchildren:  Alexis, Amelia, Kenny Nicholson.  He is also survived by his brother Larry (Naomi) Nicholson of Marietta and brother-in-law Robert Heinlein.

He was preceded in death by his parents, son Ronnie and sister Sandy.

Funeral services will be held 2:00 pm Sunday July 16th at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Pastor Lou Whitney officiating.  Friends may call at the funeral beginning at 2 pm Saturday with the family present from 2-4 and 6-8 and 1 hour prior to the service on Sunday.  Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.Lankfordfh.com.
