Emma Jane Sanford

Emma Jane Sanford, 90, of Williamstown passed away at 3:30am, Thursday, March 10, 2016, at Harmar Place.  She was born November 11, 1925, in Zihlman, MD, a daughter of Raymond and Ellen Miller Geary. She was a graduate of Beale High School in Frostburg, MD.

 
Emma enlisted in nurses training at St. Elizabeth Hospital in Washington, DC, through the Army Nurses Cadet Corps, serving as a nurse during World War II.  She later was a registered nurse at Walker County Hospital in Jasper, AL and then at Selby General Hospital in Marietta until her retirement.  She was a licensed airplane pilot.
 
On January 19, 1946, she married Dal Sanford who preceded her in death in 1995.  She is survived by 2 daughters, Roxanne Hubbard of Cutler and Jan (Sheldon Hescht) Kaiden of Williamstown; 5 grandchildren:  Jami (Brian) Dillon, Michael Kaiden, Tessa (Mike) Beckett, Chance (Lacey) Kaiden, Vincent (Amanda) Palmer and several great grandchildren and great, great grandchildren.  She is also survived by 2 brothers, Dr. and Mrs. Ralph Geary and Mr. And Mrs. Neil Geary.
 
In addition to her parents and husband, she was preceded in death by her son-in-law Lewis Hubbard.
