Ernest Earl Grimm

Ernest Earl Grimm, 96, formerly of Vienna, passed away May 1, 2017, at Heartland of Marietta.

He was born on September 5, 1920, in Parkersburg WV to Elvy Sherman and Iva Pearl (Adams) Grimm. Ernest was a 1938 graduate of Parkersburg High School and studied chemical engineering at WVU, graduating in 1942. He was one of the first employees at DuPont’s Washington Works in Wood County and retired from there in 1978. Ernest was an avid hunter and fisherman and enjoyed travelling to Florida for winters and to Newfoundland Canada for summers.
 
On May 30, 1942, he married his high school sweetheart, Phyllis Johnson. She passed away in October, 2016, after 74 years of marriage to Ernest. They raised three children: Penny (Kjell) Hansen of St John’s, Newfoundland, Canada, Andy (Kate) Grimm of Portland OR, and Susan (Tom) Sims of Las Vegas NV. Also surviving are grandchildren: Noah Hansen, Nell Flynn, Peter Grimm, Andrew Coley, Jonathan Grimm, Jerzy Wasilewski, and Marissa Kuo and great grandchildren: Evangeline and Atticus Hansen, Gavin Flynn, Ellery and Wyatt Grimm, and Eli Kinsler.
 
In addition to his parents, Ernest was preceded in death by his sister, Dorothy Grimm, and brother, Sherman Grimm. 
 
Ernest’s and Phyllis’ ashes will be buried together at Mt. Olivet cemetery in Parkersburg WV.  McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home is assisting the family.
