James A. Shaw

James A. Shaw, 89, of Marietta, Ohio, passed away on Wednesday, March 19, 2014, at Heartland of Marietta.  He was born November 29, 1924 in Fredericksdale, OH (Noble County) a son of Earl and Nelle McWilliams Shaw.  He graduated Sarahsville High School at the age of 16, then served with the U. S. Army during WWII as an honor guard for General Patton while in Europe.  After his military service he graduated from The Ohio State University in 1950.  He was the first Lay Veterinarian for the State of Ohio and traveled the state testing cattle for diseases.  He then worked as Manager for The ASCS office in Caldwell.  He started working at Washington Electric Co-OP office in 1969 and in 1970 became General Manager for Washington Electric where he worked until he retired in 1991.  He was a member of Highland Ridge Community Church, Treasurer of Buckeye Power Board, 32nd Degree Mason with Mt. Olive Lodge and Honorary Kentucky Colonel.

On December 23, 1947, he married Mary K. Hannum who preceded him in death on January 21, 2012. 
Surviving are 3 sons and 1 daughter:  James E. (Becky) Shaw of Byesville, Jeffrey R. (Ella) Shaw of Marietta, Curt E. (Sally) Shaw of Marietta, Lorrie (Al) Lovitz of Columbus; 6 grandchildren:  Aimee (Rick) Rosia, Kathryn (Jeff) Hartline, Heather (Chris) Tonn, Tiffany (Christopher) Becker, Alex Shaw, Benjamin Lovitz; 7 great grandchildren and several step grandchildren, step great grandchildren and special cousins, Jo Louise (Dean) Brown and Dr. Bernard Snyder.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, brother William Shaw and infant brother Myron Shaw.
 
Funeral services will be held on Monday (Mar. 24) at the Highland Ridge Community Church, Highland Ridge Rd., Marietta, at 12:00 noon with burial following in the church cemetery. Friends may call at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home, 314 Fourth St., Marietta on Sunday after 2:00 with family present 2-4 & 6-8 and at the church on Monday one hour before the service.  Masonic Services by American Union Lodge #1 will be held on Sunday at 7:30 pm.  Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.Lankfordfh.com.    In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Highland Ridge Community Church , 2200 Highland Ridge Road, Lowell, OH 45744.
