Jean Patterson Benson
Jean Patterson Benson, 91, of Marietta passed away at 6:20 am, Sunday, May 1, 2016, at Heartland of Marietta. She was born in Marietta November 7, 1924, to William Hector and Pearl Graham Patterson.
Jean was a graduate of Marietta High School, Class of 1942. She was a member of Sixth & Washington Streets Church of Christ and a member of Alpha Iota Business Sorority. She enjoyed gardening, playing bridge, writing poetry and especially enjoyed spending time with her family.
On May 19, 1946, she married David E. Wigginton who preceded her in death May 30, 1950. One daughter survives this marriage, Karen W. Biehl. On December 22, 1955, she married Gale E. Benson who preceded her in death on June 17, 2000. Two sons survive this marriage, Daniel Gale (Velvet) Benson of Marietta, Robert Alan Benson of Raleigh, NC; grandchildren Jennifer E. (Andy) Francis and Julia K. Waggoner both of Marietta, Nicholas G. Benson of New York City, Lacey R. Benson of Marietta; great grandchildren: Kaitlyn Waggoner, Noah Waggoner.
In addition to her parents and husbands, she was preceded in death by two great grandchildren, Angel and Joshua Francis.
In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations in Jean’s memory to Ronald McDonald House Charities Central Ohio, 711 E. Livingston Ave, Columbus, OH 43205, or a charity of donor’s choice.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (May 4) at 10:00 am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Roger Rush officiating. Family will greet friends before the service from 9:00 until 10. Burial will be in East Lawn Memorial Park. Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.Lankfordfh.com.
