John Lee Robbins

John Lee Robbins, aged 69,  of Marietta, Ohio, passed away peacefully at his home on January 26, 2017, after battling esophageal cancer.  John was born in West Union, WV, February 28, 1947, to James L Robbins Sr. and Virginia Lee Moffatt Robbins.  
 
John was a dedicated, loving family man, cherished husband of Martha, beloved father of Julie (Bill) Snodgrass and Melanie (Seth) Bertram; adored grandfather of Sullivan and Murphy. He is survived by his brothers Jim (Lucile) of Ovilla, TX, Jack (Barb) Robbins, of Sharpsville, PA and his sister Regina Carpenter, of Little Hocking, OH, many deeply loved nieces, nephews, cousins, friends and neighbors.  John was preceded in death by his father Jim, his sister Nena, and his brothers-in-law Dan Truax, and Rick Jones, and sister-in-law Chae Robbins.  
 
John was a volunteer for AFS and hosted students from all over the world, including Tatiana, Marcela, Austin, Ronald, Wilma and Luis. He was also part of the Marietta College International Student Mentoring program and his family grew to include Ayako, Liu, Luna, Joe, Hengjiang, and Qing.
 
John was a US Army veteran, 63rd Engineers and he served in Uijeongbu, S. Korea during the Vietnam War Era, helping to rebuild a major bridge while he was stationed at Camp Stanley.
 
John was employed as a mill operator at Conalco, in Hannibal, OH and retired in 2002, after 33 years.  He worked as a janitor at Marietta’s First Church of the Nazarene for 4 years and that became his favorite job.  He was a gifted handyman and kept his home up-to-date and safe. He shared his self-taught ability to set up and connect computers with many people to help them enjoy the Internet as much as he did. John’s hobbies included a lifelong passion for collecting antiques.  He loved eBay and bargain hunting online and locally. John explored the universe and eagerly looked forward to new information about discoveries and explanations about  the cosmos. He was inquisitive and never stopped learning. John was a lifelong fan of many sports, and followed the Cincinnati Reds through thick and thin. His loving kindness, patience and sense of humor are his legacy. He is well-loved and sadly missed.
 
The family would like to make a special thank-you to Marietta Memorial Hospital, Strecker Cancer Center and Marietta Home Health and Hospice and their staff, doctors, nurses, aides for all of their support.
 
There will be a celebration on Monday Jan. 30, 2017 at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home from 4-6 PM and an eulogy by Pastor Terry Schmelzenbach at 6 PM.  Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.Lankfordfh.com. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to your favorite charity.
