Lawrence Delbert Wittekind

Delbert Wittekind, 90, of Fleming, passed away at Marietta Rehabilitation Center early Monday morning, April 20, 2015. He was born August 19,1924 in Woodsfield, OH to the late Lawrence Allie Wittekind and Ida Mae Jones. 

Delbert married the love of his life Helen Louise Robinson of Gravel Bank on September 24,1949, who survives with their daughter Regina Wittekind Potaracke of Arvada, CO, their son Delbert Douglas Wittekind (Cheri) Marietta; 6 grandchildren, Todd Potaracke and Chelsea Potaracke of Arvada, CO, Leigh Ann Modesitt (Shawn) Marietta, Chad Douglas Wittekind (Paula) Newark, OH, Chad Miller (Becky) Belpre and Keshia Albright, Little Hocking, four great grandchildren, Caleb Sargent, Lauren Modesitt, Kyle and Shyanna Miller. He is also survived by a brother, Donald Eugene Wittekind (Arlene), Marietta; and sisters, Thelma West (William Cletis), Marietta; Karen Wittekind Strahler (fiancé  Doug Huffman) Marietta, and Lody Dunn, Marietta. Delbert was predeceased by his parents and his brother Dwight Wittekind.
 
Delbert was retired from Elkem Metals as a head tapper on the furnaces in 1986 after 28 years. Delbert enjoyed his retirement. Delbert spent most of his married life with Helen at Fleming, OH. His life was spent with the love of his family and friends around him.  Delbert enjoyed finishing  concrete and his hobbies of woodworking and photography. He loved sitting on the front porch enjoying his trees and yard, while Helen would sit and crochet.  He was a member of the Ohio National Guard.
 
Funeral services will be held on Thursday (April 23) at 1:00 pm at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with burial in Gravel Bank Cemetery.  Friends may at the funeral home on Wednesday after 2:00pm with family present from 2-4 & 6-8.  Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.Lankfordfh.com.

Delbert will be greatly missed by his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. May you rest in peace Dad, Pappy, and Grandpa.  We love you.
