Lloyd E. Broedel

Lloyd E. Broedel, 96, of Reno,  passed away March 14, 2017 at Huntington Cabell Hospital.

Born June 1, 1920 of George and Freda Herscher Broedel at Reno. He was preceded in death by his parents a sister Clarice Lane and a brother Robert H Broedel. 
 
Lloyd grew up on the farm at Reno, attending Sandhill School through the 8th grade. Then Marietta High School, graduating in 1938. Attended Ohio University until 1941 then becoming a Naval Aviator in World War II serving aboard the original U.S.S. Enterprise in the 6th fleet in Air Group 6 as a dive bomber pilot and later aboard the USS Manila Bay as a landing signal officer. Later attended Marietta College graduating in 1948. Remained in the Naval Reserve for many years flying out of Port Columbus retiring with rank of Commander after 23 of satisfactory service. During this time he was employed at Marietta Paint and Color for 17 years as a bench chemist, taught mathematics at Marietta Jr. High School until retirement in 1984 then part timed at Vanguard Paints for a number of years as a bench chemist.
In 1947, Lloyd married P. Diane Hoff who preceded him in death in 1981.
 
Surviving is daughter Kimberly Broedel-Zaugg Ph.D. professor in the School of Pharmacy at Marshall University, granddaughter Stephanie Dione Zaugg, PharmD, DO and son-in-law Jeffery W. Owen.  Also surviving is a sister Laura Louise Alden of Reno.
 
Funeral services will be held 1:30 pm Saturday, March 18th at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with burial with full military rite  to follow at East Lawn Memorial Park.  Friends may call at the funeral home beginning at 2 pm on Friday with the family present from 2-4 and 6-8.  Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.Lankfordfh.com.
