Mary Lou Gedel
Mary Lou Gedel, 92, a resident of Montgomery, AL, died on Monday, October 2, 2017.
Ms. Gedel was born at Marietta, Ohio to the late Beman and Frieda Gedel. She obtained her master’s degree in nutrition from Cornell University. She worked at Johns Hopkins University and left Baltimore for Alabama in the late 1960s. She worked for the Alabama Department of Public Health. Friends believe she was an integral part of the WIC program, a supplemental nutrition program for pregnant women, breastfeeding women, women who had a baby within the last six months, infants, and children under the age of five.
She touched many lives and will be greatly missed by all that knew her. She leaves to cherish her memories numerous friends, including June Helus, Miriam and Sean Halen, Brett Crawford and other extended family.
A Memorial Service was held on Saturday, October 14, 2017 at 2:00 p.m. at Messiah Lutheran Church. Burial will take place on Saturday, October 21 at 10:00 AM at Oak Grove Cemetery in Marietta, OH.
