Sheldon A. Parks

Sheldon A. Parks, 90, of Marietta passed away 9:30 am, Thursday, December 04, 2014 at his home surround by his family.
 
He was born July 14, 1924 in Monroe, OH to Henry and Ella (Kehl) Parks.  Sheldon was a 1942 graduate of Marietta High School and had enlisted in the US Army Air Corp, serving from September 29, 1942 and until March 7, 1946. At the time of his discharge Sheldon was a Staff Sergeant serving as an airplane line chief with the 1408th AAF base unit.  While serving Sheldon earned the American Theater Battalion Ribbon, EAME Theater Ribbon, a Good Conduct Medal, and the Victory Medal. 
 
In 1946 Sheldon enrolled in Marietta College under the GI Bill and graduated in 1949 with a Bachelor’s of Chemistry.  While at MC he was a member of Lambda Chi Alpha.  Sheldon began working at B.F. Goodrich in December of 1949 and remained there until his retirement in 1987.  During his time at B.F. Goodrich he was head of product extrusion development where his team won 3 patents for the company.
 
On September 30, 1946 Sheldon married Donna Sue Ball who survives with children Jill Parks Huffman of Marietta, Steven Parks (Becky) of Modesto, CA, and Jason Parks (Tracey) of Mason, OH.  Also surviving are grandchildren Molly Wilcox, Jared Huffman, Melissa Boulton, Sean, Todd, Brian, Morgan and Andrew Parks, along with great grandchildren Joshua, Whyatt, Haylee, Hunter, Jarrett, Addison, Brady and Benjamin.
 
In addition his parents he was preceded in death by a sons Robin Parks, and Kevin Parks and sisters Olive Duckworth (Loren) and Alma Kesselring (Ray). 
 
Funeral services will be held 10:30 am Monday, December 8th at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Pastor Cheryl Arnold officiating.  Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park.  Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 pm Sunday, with the family present from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8.  Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.Lankfordfh.com.
 
The family would like to make a special thank-you to Pam for all of the care she had given Sheldon.  In Lieu of flowers the Family request memorial contributions be made to the Reno Volunteer Fire Dept or Marietta Hospice.
