Al Tidd

Portrait of Al Tidd

Joseph Allen “Al” Tidd, 83, of Reno passed away peacefully Friday, April 3, 2020, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.

He was born July 12,1936 to Clyde Raymond and Mary Gail (Duffy) Tidd. He was employed by Crystal Ice when he met Wilna Bernadine Morey. Al and his brother Raymond frequented the Crystal Dairy and Johnston Restaurant where Bernadine worked. Being good friends and gentlemen, the brothers always offered to give Bernadine a ride home so she wouldn’t have to walk home late at night. One evening in particular Al and Raymond picked Bernadine up but they had to make a stop at a local factory for work. Raymond went in alone and purposefully stayed longer than necessary so Al and Bernadine could talk. That night Al walked Bernadine to her door. They married On February 18,1961. Al held many positions in the Frontier School District and retired as Transportation Supervisor and Head of Building maintenance. Al continued his role as Driver Education Instructor at Frontier High School after retirement and fondly referred to all the students as his “kids.”

Always willing to serve his community, Al also served as an Auxiliary Washington County Deputy Sheriff. He will be missed by his brother, Raymond (Barbara) Tidd; sisters Ruby McElfresh and Carolyn Smith; children: Rex Tidd of Spencer, Ohio; Debbie (Bob) Updyke of Coraopolis, Pennsylvania; Marlene (Virgil) Offenberger of Whipple; Jim (Patty) Tidd of Reno; Joyce (Steve) Howard of Whipple; Wade (Alisha) Tidd of Marietta; Wayne (Missy) Tidd of Newport; several grandchildren and great -grandchildren; and good friends Dan Turner and Pat Love and all his friends that met at Burger King.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 55 years; infant daughter, Ann; daughter-in-law, Sheila; brothers Delbert, Earl, Tommy, and Ronnie; and sisters Mary Elizabeth and Lucille.
