Charlotte Lois Scott Elliott, 96, of Devola in Marietta passed away on Sunday, July 28, 2019 at her home.

Charlotte was born on May 26,1923 in Marietta Ohio, the 3rd child and only daughter of Wallace and Harriett (Davis) Scott. She attended school in Marietta, Columbus, and Gallipolis Ohio. She was an accomplished pianist and accompanied band, orchestra and vocal groups. She graduated from Gallia Academy and Holzer Hospital School of Nursing as a registered nurse and was active in Kappa Delta sorority.

On February 27,1941 she married William H. Elliott who preceded her in death. Charlotte worked at the Sioux Indian Reservation and OSU Hospital until she had children: Cheryl Elliott (Tom) Rose, William Scott (Amy), Burt McCoy (Shelley), Robert Grant (Renee), and has 10 grand children and 16 great grandchildren.

In June 1984, she married Richard (Dick) Sauer and enjoyed many years of golf and travel before he preceded her in death.

Charlotte was actively involved in community affairs, serving as Girl Scout leader; President of Hill And Dale Garden Club; Christ United Methodist Church UMW; Marietta Country Club WGA; and was one of the “Penguins Golf Club” with several of her good friends. Charlotte was one of the founders of the Franciscan Meals-on-Wheels program; served on the Betsy Mills Girls Council; Marietta Welfare League; And Jesters’ wives.

She was an active contributor to the Washington County Fair, avid bird watcher and gardener. She spent her life finding joy and beauty in family, friends, and nature. She liked nothing more than entertaining at her house or the families A-frame overlooking the beautiful Muskingum River.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday (Aug. 3) at 3:00 pm at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home followed by a celebration of her life at 4:00 pm at the family A-frame in Ferncliff (Devola). Family will greet friends before the service on Saturday from 2 until 3. Entombment will be held on Sunday at 12:00 noon in East Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
