Darrell William Rummer

Darrell William Rummer passed away 11/28/20 in Marietta Memorial Hospital after contacting Covid 19.
He was born on December 3 1, 1946 and lived most of his life in Marietta, Ohio.
He attended Marietta High School and after graduation he enlisted in the U.S. Army in May of 1968. He took missile training before being sent to Okinawa, and later he served in Korea as a dog handler. In 1973 he re-enlisted and was stationed in Kitzingen, Germany.
Darrell was a retired roofer belonging to Local #242 and spent most of his retirement time trying to teach his cats to behave and his parakeets to talk.
He is survived by his mother, Betty J. Rummer; his sister, Kathy Wentz; a niece, Katrina Bush and a nephew, Rodney Bennett, his very special friend Grace Embry, and all of Grace’s family.
He was preceded in death by his father, Homer R. Rummer; and his brother Gary E. Rummer.
Darrell always chose to be outdoors and being in nature. He loved fishing, hunting, and reading. He was very knowable about herbs and animals of all kinds.
He was a life-time member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post #5108.
There will be no service at this time and burial will be at the Oak Grove Cemetery. McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home is assisting the family and messages of sympathy may be sent at www.Lankfordfh.com. Donations can be made to the Washington County Humane Society in his memory.
