Elizabeth Ann Taylor Brokaw (known to all as Libby), 83 years of age, passed away Monday, January 20, 2020 at Marietta Memorial Hospital in Marietta, Ohio.

Libby is survived by her sister Marilyn Dehmlow of Marietta (Curtis, nieces Sarah, Anne, Susannah, and nephews Jonathan, Matthew, William); son Barry Allen Brokaw of Cincinnati (Jill, grandchildren Eric, Andrew, Anna); son Tod Allen Brokaw of Vermilion (grandchildren Elise, Henry); daughter Ann Iddings Brokaw of Rocky River (Laura); and many dear relatives and friends. Libby is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 57 years, Allen, and their infant son, Joseph Allen Brokaw.

Born and raised in Flushing, Ohio, the daughter of Harry and Virginia Taylor (Iddings), Libby graduated from Flushing High School in 1954. She went on to graduate with a degree in biology from Muskingum College in 1958 and married her high school sweetheart (Allen) in 1959. As they began to build their life together and children came along, Libby and Allen found themselves living in several Ohio towns, Minnesota, Connecticut, and New Jersey before settling in Marietta in 1979. Libby was a devoted and loving wife and mother to her family through these eventful years of their life. Everywhere they lived, Libby was active in her community and church.

In 1980 Libby went back to school and graduated in 1982 with her registered nursing degree from Parkersburg Community College. She worked as a nurse at Memorial Hospital and also as a school nurse in Marietta Schools. Over time, she advanced to Director of Marietta Memorial’s Outreach Services and the 55-Plus program.

Libby and Allen were active members of Gilman United Methodist Church. In addition, Libby served for several years on the Boards of the American Red Cross, the American Cancer Society, the O’Neill Senior Center, the Sisters of St. Joseph Charitable Foundation, and was a founding organizer of the Free Medical and Dental Clinics in Marietta. She and Allen enjoyed working with many other groups to enhance the community in countless ways.

Libby will be missed by family and friends for her lifetime of love of and dedication to others.

Visitation will be at McClure-Schafer-Lankford funeral home in Marietta on Friday, January 24, 2020 from 5:00-8:00pm. To celebrate Libby’s life, funeral services will be at Gilman United Methodist Church on Saturday, January 25, 2020 at 11:00am with visitation beginning at 10:00am. Graveside service will be at Oak Grove Cemetery, and a reception open to all will be held at the church following the services.
