Ernest Edwin “Ed” DeLong, 77 of Newport, Ohio, fought the good fight and was called home on Friday, January 12, 2018, by his Lord and Savior while surrounded by his loved ones. He was born in 1940 to the late Wilbert and Pearl (Hartshorn) DeLong.

He is survived by Bonnie (Benson) DeLong whom he married on October 10, 1966. Also surviving are daughters Janet (Alan) Ward of Newport, Susan DeLong DeSantis of Palm Beach, Florida, Connie (Greg) Huntsman of Newport and Jolene DeLong of Newport. Surviving grandchildren are Jacob (Nicole) Ward, Amy (Adam) Handschumaker, Ariana (Chris) Kennedy, Ben (Marcie) Huntsman, Zach (Taylor) Huntsman, Jonah DeLong and several great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother, Lloyd DeLong and a sister, Marianna Bedilion.

Ed was a retired painter and member of the Painters Local Union #1144 in Parkersburg, WV and after retirement opened his own business, DeLong’s Auto Body. He was a member in good standing with the Newport Church of Christ and Masterson Lodge of Lebanon. He enjoyed riding his Harley Davidson motorcycles, spending time with his family, volunteering for the Shrine Nemesis transporting children to medical appointments and treatment centers and sharing humor through jokes.

The family wishes to express sincere appreciation to Dr. Cawley and the staff of Marietta Home Health and Hospice for their devoted care.

Services will be held at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Tuesday (Jan. 16) at 11 am with Lloyd Westbrook officiating. Burial to follow at the Newport Cemetery. The family will greet friends at the funeral home on Monday between 2pm-4pm and 6pm-8pm. Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.Lankfordfh.com.

In lieu of flowers, the family would appreciate donations to the funeral home to assist with expenses.
