Gene C. Sayre, Sr.

On Friday, 15 December, 2017. Gene C. Sayre, Sr., at the age of 89 years, completed his earthly journey and now lives in heaven with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He was born on May 1st, 1928 in Letart Falls, OH to the late Holly and Florice (Burns) Sayre.

He is survived by his devoted wife of 28 years Dorla L. (Milam), two sons Gene Jr (Judy) of Chesapeake, VA, James L. (Cathi) of Davisville, WV, one daughter Cheryl Y. (Gene) McCain of Letonia, OH, stepchildren Betty (William) Boswell, Dennis (Sarah) Miller, Gary (Cindy) Miller, George (Marsha) Miller, David (Pam) Miller, six grandchildren, several great-grandchildren.

In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by brothers Holly, Raymond, Ronald, Richard all of the Marietta area, Benjamin of Akron, sisters Anna Burner of Parkersburg, Francis Basim of Marietta, Charlotte E. (Badgley) Sayre, stepchildren William Miller and Cheryl Miller, and his beloved dog Hobo.
Mr. Sayre was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church. He retired from Elkem Metals in 1986 after 33 years and was an active member of Oil, Chemical and Atomic Workers Union. Prior to Elkem Metals he was employed by Fenton Art Glass (46-51) and Remington Rand (51-53). Additionally he was Assistant Washington County Dog Warden from 1996-2000. During his life he enjoyed several years participating with local Little League baseball teams, volunteering with WASCO and getting together for monthly breakfasts at the O’Neil Center. Other interests were fishing, bowling, long drives with Dorla, and walks in the park with their dog Hobo.

Friends may call at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home from 3-5 PM and 7-9 PM Wednesday. A Celebration Of Life Service will be officiated by Pastor Lou Verdi on Thursday, December 21st at 1 PM at the McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Internment in East Lawn Memorial Park.
