Harold “Art” Woodgerd

Portrait of Harold “Art” Woodgerd

Harold ‘Art’ Woodgerd, 86, of Marietta, passed away peacefully on September 17th. He was born in Meigs County, Ohio on August 9th, 1933 to the late Lloyd and Alma (Markins) Woodgerd, the youngest of 7 children.

He is survived by his wife of 62 years, Betty (Lindamood), his son Mike (Marci), dear friend Orland Bragg, and several nieces and nephews.

Art graduated from Shade High School in 1951. He proudly served in the U.S. Army from 1954-1956. He often fondly recalled his 10 years in the Marietta Police Department where he rose to the rank of Sergeant. He was later the Safety Supervisor for the CCC Trucking Company and Dispatcher for CW Transport. He retired from Marietta Ignition in 1996. Art’s volunteer work included driving a clown car to entertain kids and driving veterans to hospital appointments around the state.

Over the years, his hobbies included CB radio and enjoying western novels and movies. He actively bought and sold at auctions and flea markets. A consistent interest was cars, including working with Orland to restore a classic 1971 Lincoln Continental, winning several trophies in local car shows. He also modified an old van, replacing the front seat with a platform at just the right height so Mike and Marci’s dog Sara could ride with her head out the window.
He was preceded in death by his three brothers – Carroll, Bob and Dale – and his three sisters – Dolores, Betty and Frances.

In accordance with his wishes, he was cremated. Please join the family for a visitation Saturday September 28th from noon until 2 P.M and a memorial service officiated by Dr. Lloyd Dennis at 2 PM at the McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, please make donations to a veterans or children’s charity.
