Helen Marie Smith, 95, (March 8, 1924 ~ September 13, 2019) went to join her only beloved grandson Tyler John Miller on Friday, September 13, 2019.

Helen grew up in Stanleyville and graduated from Marietta High School in 1942. She had worked for the U. S. Government under the civil service in Washington, DC, briefly worked for Viscoe in Parkersburg and Brickwede in Marietta, in 1944 worked for Remington Rand for 10 years working her way up to company cashier and also worked for Public Debt and for 22 years for Wolf Creek School District.

Helen moved to Watertown in 1950 where she was a member of Watertown United Methodist Church and served as Sunday school teacher, Bible school coordinator, lay leader and recording treasurer. She loved baking, sewing, reading, crafts, gardening and enjoyed and taught decorative painting for 14 years at the Washington County Career Center. She was especially pleased of her portrait paintings. She met many wonderful friends during her painting career. She was a 4-H advisor for 15 years.

She was a member of the National Decorative Painters and the Heart of Ohio Tole and Winding Roads Decorative Artist. While in WRDA, she served as President, Secretary and on various committees. She was an active member of The Marietta Art League.

Helen married Ralph C. Smith of Watertown on February 19, 1947. Surviving are her children: R. Jay (Pam) Smith, Janet (Phillip) Smith, Jill (John) Miller; 4 grandchildren: Angela (Jarrod) Martin, Shannon (Keith) Allen, Holly Miller, Samantha Miller; 6 great grandchildren: Arcadia Miller, Olivia Martin, Jaden Martin, Isabella Allen, Peyton Allen, Grayson Tyler Roseberry. She is also survived by her sister Betty Jean Born.

Helen was preceded in death by her husband of 42 years, Ralph, her parents Gilbert and Edna Groslos Born, sisters: Margaret, Alvena, Merna, Mary Lou, Carolyn; brother William and grandson Tyler J. Miller.

Funeral services will be held on Monday (Sept. 16) at 11:00 am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with interment following in Watertown Cemetery. Family will greet friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4 and 6-8. Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.Lankfordfh.com.
