Joretta June Payne Wheaton-Reynolds

Joretta June Payne Wheaton-Reynolds, 88, of Marietta went to be with her Lord and Savior at 11:55 am, Saturday, September 28, 2019, at Marietta Memorial Hospital. She was born April 10, 1931 in Lower Salem to George and Fern Whetstone Payne.

Joretta graduated from Lawrence High School in 1949. She was an active member of the Moss Run Community Church where she served as treasurer for 40 years and also served 29 years as secretary and treasurer of their women’s fellowship. She also served as a Sunday School Teacher. She was a member of the Women’s Christian Temperance Union.

She was also a member of the Little Muskingum Grange #2621 for over 50 years where she served as lecture for 11 years. She was a charter member of the Little Muskingum Volunteer Fire Department.

Joretta is survived by her daughter, Stefanie (Don) Arnold of Marietta, daughter-in-law Karen Wheaton of Marietta; grandsons, Robert “Bob” Wheaton and James (Kelsey) Arnold of Marietta; great-grandsons, Titus James Arnold and Ezekiel Paul Arnold; sister Dolly Smith of Marietta, sister-in-law Betty Wheaton; stepsons: Bob (Patty) Reynolds, Chester Jr. (Nancy) Reynolds, Michael (Audrey) Reynolds, Roy (Alice) Reynolds; stepdaughters: Betty (Randy) O’Brian, Naomi (Jacques) Peton, Patty Montgomery, Bobbi (Chris) Hatcher, Teresa (J.R.) Hall, stepdaughter-in-law, Dee Reynolds, several step grandchildren, step great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

Along with her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband of 48 years, Ernest Marshall Wheaton whom she married on May 21, 1949. She was also preceded in death by her second husband of 10 years, Chester W. Reynolds whom she married on December 4, 1999. Also preceded by 2 sons, Robert Keith Wheaton and Ernest Steven Wheaton; sisters, Waldine Beardmore, Grace Saad, Eloise Burwell, Marylou Lassiter; brothers: Everett Payne, Robert Payne, Bill Payne; mother-in-law Mildred Wheaton-Varner, fathers-in-law, Warren Wheaton and Wilford Varner and stepson Tom Reynolds.

Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (Oct. 2) at 10:30 am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with interment following in East Lawn Memorial Park. Family will greet friends at the funeral home on Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8. Messages of sympathy may be sent to the family at www.Lankfordfh.com.
