(Marjorie) Diane Garretson Schweikert, 83, of Green, passed away Monday, April 9, 2018, at the Aultman Woodlawn Compassionate Care Center after battling pancreatic cancer.

Diane was born in Cleveland MS, where she spent much time on the Buckley family farm as child. Growing up, Diane lived in Vicksburg MS, Memphis TN, Point Pleasant WV, Cincinnati OH, and then Fort Thomas KY; graduating from Highlands High School in 1952. She attended Ohio University where she joined Sigma Kappa sorority, and was a member of the Pershing Rifles, Company F-1. There she met her husband James (Jim) Franklin Schweikert. Diane and Jim where married in 1955 and moved to Fort Benning GA, where she began teaching. In 1956 Diane and Jim moved to Memphis TN, where she continued to teach, and she officially transferred to Memphis State College (University of Memphis) graduating in 1957 with a Bachelor of Science in Education. Diane then moved to Marietta OH in 1959, where she and Jim assumed operation of the Schweikert family business, Marietta Chemical Products. At that time Diane also began teaching in Warren Local Schools. In the 1970’s, Diane stepped away from teaching to focus on her family and provide community service through organizations such as; the Marietta Welfare League, the League of Women Voters, and Civitan. Diane later returned to teaching and taught for Marietta City Schools in the 1980’s and 1990’s. Diane was a member of Christ United Methodist Church in Marietta and Greensburg United Methodist Church in Green where she was active in United Methodist Women. Diane was one of two children born to the late David William Garretson and (Emily) Elsie Buckley Garretson.

Diane is survived by beloved children Jana Winkhart and husband Brad Winkhart, and James Schweikert and wife Staci Schweikert, treasured grandchildren Seth and Lauren Winkhart and Thomas and Andrew Schweikert, along with countless other friends and family whom were blessed to know her.

She was preceded in death by her husband Jim, sister Patricia (Patsy) Garretson, and granddaughter, Elena Winkhart. Diane enjoyed travelling and being with her family and spending time with her friends. Diane touched the lives of many people with her friendship and service.

A memorial service will take place in Green on Thursday, April 12, 2018 at 6 p.m. at Greensburg United Methodist Church with the Rev. Katie Osier officiating.

Friends may call from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. Friday, April 13, 2018, at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home in Marietta. Services will be held on Saturday, April 14, 2018, at 10 a.m. at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home in Marietta. Burial will follow the services at Mound Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that memorial donations may be made to a charity of the donor’s choice in honor of Diane.
