Twila E. Doak

Twila E. Doak, 94, long-time resident of the Oak Grove Community, passed away May 2, 2020. For the last several years she has lived at Harmar Place in Marietta, where she received excellent skilled-care nursing. She was a farm wife who was frequently outstanding in her field. She was an excellent cook, a hard-working field hand, and good at recognizing and doing things that needed to be done, whatever the situation. She was predeceased by her husband, Howard C. Doak, on December 31, 1993. She was also preceded in death by her parents, Daniel and Gladys Epler, her sister, Opal Y. Dye, and her son-in-law, Lee Parsons.

Twila applied herself to her family’s needs and her Christianity with all her ability. She was an active member of the Harmar Hill Church of Christ, where she served as an elder’s wife and leader among the women of the church. She was a member of the Stepping Stones for Ohio Valley College and led many efforts to raise money for OVC, especially cooking and catering large events in the local community. Twila was also a member of local farm leadership organizations, such as the Farm Bureau Council and Lowell Grange No. 2475. She was willing to step in and use her elbow grease wherever there was a need in the community.

She is survived by two sons and a daughter: Daniel Doak (Bobbie) of Vienna, WV, Ruth Parsons of St. Catharines, ON, and Raymond (Deborah) Doak of Sweetwater, TX; six grandchildren: Becca Jacobson (Rich) of Waxhaw, NC, Samuel Doak (Amanda) of Parkersburg, WV, Blair Parsons and Beau Parsons both of Toronto, ON and Lauren Doak and Madeline Doak, both of Honolulu, HI; and four great-grandchildren: Jocelyn Doak and Finley Doak of Parkersburg, WV and Abigail Jacobson and Isabelle Jacobson of Waxhaw, NC. She is also survived by many loyal nieces, nephews, and cousins who loved her.

Due to the Covid-19 restrictions, there will be no funeral service at this time. Other arrangements are yet to be determined. Also due to the virus restrictions, flowers are generally not available, so in lieu of flowers, if you would like, please send a donation to Ohio Valley University in Twila’s honor.
