Dr. Michele Hilden Willard
Dr. Michele Hilden Willard passed away Friday, October 11,2013 at the Marietta Memorial Hospital.
Wife of the late Dr. Earl R. Willard, daughter of the late Frederick and Mary (Galvin) Hilden. She is survived by her sister Irene Kaufenberg of New Tripoli, PA, brothers, Michael Hilden of Plymouth, MA, Richard Hilden of Melrose, MA, nephews and niece Peter Kaufenberg, Joshua and Vanessa Nigro
Born in Boston, MA on May, 14, 1942, she attended Boston Girl's Latin School, Emanuel College, Clark University and Ohio State University. She taught Political Science at Marietta College from 1967 – 1981. While a member of the faculty, she served as an academic advisor to a number of students, who would credit her with their success in their education and careers,
In 1984 she received her J.D. from Ohio State University. Michele practiced law in Marietta and often provided pro bono services to Southeastern Ohio Legal Services. Active in many organizations including: EVE, where is was instrumental in starting up a fund to provide monies for victims of domestic abuse, the Ohio State Bar Association, the Washington County Child and Adults with Disabilities and ARC, a program that supported summer camp for kids.
Michele enjoyed her vacations to Grand Cayman Island and Hilton Head Island., she was a tenacious Scrabble player, and founding member of the Putnam Street Irregulars, a mystery readers book club.
Dr. Willard was highly respected by her colleagues on the college faculty as well as by the legal community.
A memorial service will be held at 10:00 am on November 16, 2013 at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home.
