Robert “Dale” Stille, Sr.
Robert “Dale” Stille, Sr., 96 years, 9 months, 13 days, of Lower Salem went to sleep peacefully on August 25, 2016, at Marietta Memorial Hospital with his family at his side. He was born November 12, 1919, in Newcomerstown, OH, to Reverend Samuel Harden Stille and Emma Marie Kirkbride Stille.
Dale graduated from Salem Liberty High School and served in the Army Air Force toward the end of World War II. He was employed at Union Carbide Metals and retired from Elkem after 32 years. After retirement, he was involved in farming and working with his son at Peaceful Valley Greenhouse.
On April 1, 1945, he married Rebecca Ann Wilson at Scott Field, Illinois. She preceded him in death on October 16, 1983. Dale is survived by one daughter and 5 sons: Jeanette Marie Wolfert, Robert Dale “Bob” Stille, Jr., Charles Edward (Patty) Stille, Sr., Samuel Verdell (Kathy) Stille, Blaine Allen (Sharon) Stille, Joseph Wayne Stille, 15 grandchildren, 27 great grandchildren and 8 great, great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, sister Arlene E. Stille Erb, daughter-in-law Susie Stille, and great grandson, Tony Arbaugh.
Funeral services will be held on Monday (Aug. 29) at 10:30am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Tom Fagan officiating. Burial will follow in Salem Township Cemetery with full military honors. Family will greet friends at the funeral home on Sunday from 2-4 & 6-8. Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.Lankfordfh.com.
