Virginia L. “Jenny” Adkins
Virginia L. Adkins "Jenny", age 85, passed into the presence of her Lord at home in Marietta, OH on Jan. 1, 2017, surrounded by her loving family.
She was born to Elmer and Flora Deal on Oct. 17, 1931. She was a graduate of Huntington High School and worked at Owens Illinois until her retirement. She was a wife and homemaker. She was a former member of Grace of Gospel Church in Huntington, WV and a current member of Fellowship Baptist Church in Vienna, WV. She was also a member if Woodmen life Chapter 1 in Parkersburg, WV. She was known for her peanut butter fudge, Mac and Cheese and Ham salad as well as her love for Southern Gospel Music.
She never failed to thank God for allowing her to survive her 39 year battle with breast cancer.
She is survived by her eldest sister, Charlene Wolfe of Spokane, WA, her daughter Pam Gillette (Paul) of New Orleans, LA and her son Jeff Adkins (Valerie) of Marietta, OH, 6 grandchildren, 7 great grandchildren and several nieces and nephews.
She was preceded in death by her loving husband of 54 years, Harold, her parents, two sisters and two brothers.
The family wants to thank Dr. Kelli Cawley and Hospice of Marietta for the excellent care they gave Jenny and to Betty Toppari for her dedication to meeting Jenny's needs during her last few months.
There will be visitation between 6 and 8 pm on Thursday evening at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home, 314 Fourth Street in Marietta, OH. Memorial service will be at Woodmere Memorial Park Mausoleum in Huntington, WV, at 10 AM on Friday. Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.Lankfordfh.com.
