Arminda “Mimi” Paige Ames Ash
Arminda "Mimi" Paige Ames Ash, 78, of Marietta, wife of the late Dr. Leroy Ash, passed away at her home on Sunday (Nov. 20, 2011) surrounded by her family. She was born Feb. 21, 1933, in Toledo, Ohio, and she was a member of the Church of Christ at Warner, Ohio.
She attended the Maumee High School in Maumee, Ohio, and had various interests by being a member of glee club, choir, a prestigious ensemble, GAA (Girls Athletic Association), drama club, student council and the yearbook staff.
She attended Ohio University in 1952, where she met her husband, Leroy, and they eloped and were married in 1954. In 1960, she moved to Marietta. She was the business manager of her husband's dental office and handled all office details. She was also a licensed Ohio Realtor as president of Amber Realty, Inc., and a fashion consultant for Doncaster and Young Traditions Clothing.
Her community and service activities included: member and past president of The Marietta Welfare League, board of directors for the Ohio Community Theatre Association, chairman of the Summer Acting Directing Workshop at Miami University, chairman of Octafest, past president of the Valley View Garden Club, board member and actor with the Mid-Ohio Valley Players, member of the Zonta Club, member of the Fenton Art Glass Collectors of America, and a member of a local Couples Group. She was a connoisseur of Mexican food, loved needlework, and was a constant book reader.
She is survived by three sons, Steve Ash and his wife, Darcie, of Marietta, David Ash of Roswell, Georgia, and Mark Ash of Marietta; one daughter, MaraLee Spindler and her husband, Charles, of Marietta; seven grandchildren, Brandon, Blake and Mimi Layman of Marietta, Carlee Spindler of Marietta, Logan Ash (now serving in the U.S. Marine Corp in Afghanistan) and his wife, Misty, of Newport, N.C., and Lexi and Ethan Ash of Marietta; two great-grandchildren, Ian Layman of Marietta and Addison Ash of Newport, N.C.
She was preceded in death by one week by her husband of 59 years, Dr. Leroy P. Ash; and her mother and stepfather, Barbara and Fred Hays.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorials, in the names of Dr. Leroy and Mimi Ash be made to Southeastern Ohio Dental Clinic, c/o Marietta Community Foundation, P.O. Box 77, Marietta, Ohio, 45750.
The funeral service will be held on today (Nov. 22) at 2:30 p.m. at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with burial following in East Lawn Memorial Park. Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday from noon until the hour of the service.
