William E. Strauss
William E. Strauss, 90, of Marietta, passed away on Saturday, February 23, 2013, at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born on October 17, 1922, in Marietta a son of Walter H. and Maude Barnhart Strauss. He was associated with The United Methodist Church, was a veteran of U. S. Army during WWII, owned and operated West Side Transfer, was a life member and Past Commander of VFW Post 5108, member and past SS of Military Order of Cooties, member of American Legion Post 64, member of Disabled Veterans. He loved watching sports of all kinds.
On July 7, 1946, he married Betty Jean Weinstock who preceded him in death on August 15, 1970. He was also preceded in death by longtime friend Dorothy A. Smith.
He was a loving father and grandfather to 2 sons and 2 daughters: David E. (Carolyn J.) Strauss of Belpre, Sherry Jean (Larry) Snider of Chloe, WV, Susan C. (Richard) Venham of Marietta, Daniel Scott (Judy A.) Strauss of Dayton; niece Linda Laird who was raised in the home, 8 grandchildren, 17 great grandchildren and special niece Jane Leachman.
In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his son Michael Dean, 4 grandchildren: Kimberly Dawn, Shawn Lee, Alex Daniel, Alicia Nichole and 9 brothers and sisters.
Friends may call at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home on Tuesday (February 26) beginning at noon until 3:00 pm with services at 3:00 at the funeral home. Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park. Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.lankfordfh.com.
