  • Frances L. Weber Cassandro

    Frances L. Weber Cassandro, 86, of Marietta passed away 12:10 am, Thursday, July 18, 2024 at Legacy Marietta.  She was born January 13, 1938 in Weston, WV to Clyde and Helen McCoy.  Frances had worked as a sales associate at Rinks and later as a bartender.  She was a member of the American Legion Post 64 Ladies Auxiliary.
    She was married to John E. “Jack” Cassandro who preceded her in death.

  • Noel A. Wetz

    Noel A. Wetz of Lowell, Ohio, passed away on July 18, 2024. He was born on December 22, 1943, in Marietta, Ohio, to Walter E. and Laura B. Schletzer Wetz.
    Noel graduated from Fort Frye High School in 1961. He served in the United States Air Force from 1961 to 1968, reaching a rank of Staff Sergeant. He was stationed in Germany, Taiwan and England. After leaving the service, Noel worked as an operator at Ohio Power’s Muskingum River Plant in Beverly, Ohio, for nearly 30 years. He then worked as a courier for Marietta Memorial Hospital for 19 years before retiring.

    Beth Ann (Johnson) Mortimer, 67, of Marietta passed away Sunday, July 14, 2024.
    She was born in Marietta on May 15, 1957, a daughter of Eric Wilbur and Charlotte Mary Morgan Johnson. She was a graduate of Marietta High School in 1975.

    Patricia L. “Patty” Kehl, 52, of Marietta passed away at 3:13am, Friday, July 12, 2024, at Marietta Memorial Hospital. She was born on June 6, 1972, in Marietta a daughter of Lee Ralph Kehl, Jr. and Doris L. Williams Kehl.
    Patty had been employed at the Marietta Times where she worked in the Production Department for 31 years. She was a member of Gilman United Methodist Church and enjoyed doing Genology and crocheting and shopping trips.

    Ruth E. Cunningham Matheny, 102, long time resident of New Matamoras passed away at 1:55am, Friday, July 12, 2024 at Muskingum Skilled Nursing and Rehabilitation Center.
    She was born on December 29, 1921 near New Matamoras to Claude H. Cunningham and Kathryn M. Bradfield Cunningham. Ruth enjoyed quilting, flower gardening, displaying her glassware and her many cats. She graduated from Stover High School, Class of 1939.

  • Marilyn Mattern Mills

    Marilyn Mattern Mills, 91, of Lower Salem, Ohio passed away peacefully at her home on July 9, 2024 surrounded by family.
    She was born January 24, 1933 in Cadiz, Ohio, daughter of Elmo and Edith (Freeburn) Mattern. Marilyn graduated Cadiz High School in 1951. She attended Muskingum University and transferred to Ohio State University where she received her Bachelor of Science degree in Medical Technology with an emphasis on microbiology on June 10, 1955. Marilyn worked as a laboratory technician prior to marrying her husband and starting a family. During her college years she was a member of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority. While raising four children she somehow found time to remain very active in the community. A member of the Presbyterian Church, local bridge clubs and cooking groups, American Quarter Horse Association, OSU President’s Club, and Ohio Farm Bureau. She was an avid golfer and was 5 time Marietta Country Club champion. Her biggest enjoyment besides watching and engaging in her children’s many activities was spending time on the family farm with her many horses and cattle. Countless hours of bailing hay, mucking stalls, and caring for her cherished animals over the years is where Marilyn found solace. She also was a remarkable bridge player and enjoyed the competition with her friends at the O’Neill Center.

  • Gary G. Hupp

    Gary G. Hupp, 83 of Marietta, passed away Saturday, July 6, 2024 at Grant Hospital in Columbus, Ohio.
    He was born September 16, 1940 in Macksburg, Ohio, to the late Harry and Alberta (Brown) Hupp.
    Gary was a union painter, member of Painters Union District Council #53 for fifty years, He loved to play music with his brothers and entertained people for over sixty years.
    Gary is survived by his daughters, Kim (Tom) Seevers and Carol Hupp, sons Buddy (Connie) Hupp of Washington and Steve (Jackie) Hupp of Marietta; a grandson Jason Hupp and great grandchildren Braden, Courtney, and Jacob Howell, all of Marietta. Gary is survived by his brothers Norm, Fred (Debbie) and Terry Hupp. Gary is also survived by his sister-in-law, Donna (Britton) Hupp.
