    Martha Jane “Janie” Handschumacher, 74, of Beverly passed away at her home surrounded by her family after a 2-year battle with cancer on Wednesday, January 27, 2021. She was born in Marietta on October 31, 1946, a daughter of Dale and Ruth Schaad Strahler.
    Janie was a 1964 graduate of Fort Frye High School, a graduate of Ohio University in 1968 with a Bachelor of Science Education and later received her Master’s in Education from Marietta College. She taught at Fort Frye for 30 years. She loved being a teacher and touched the many lives of her students and was well remembered by them. She was honored by her students at Fort Frye to be the Home Coming Parade Marshall. Janie was a member of St. Bernard’s Catholic Church. She was a member of Red Hats, enjoyed scrap booking and loved to travel, especially with her sisters.

  • William L. “Bill” Kidd

    William L. “Bill” Kidd, 75, of Lower Salem passed away at 5:25 am, Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at his home. He was born March 31, 1945 in Bryan, Texas to Robert Whitney and Dorothy Grace Bohlen Kidd.
    Bill owned his own barber shop in Lower Salem, was a self employed farmer, hauled milk for Barth Farms, worked for William Ford Trucking, drove school bus for Fort Frye School District and was co-owner of Shield Drilling Company. He attended The Ohio State University and Andrews Barber College.

    Judy H. Christopher, 72, of Belpre, passed away on January 23, 2021 at Marietta Memorial Hospital. She was born on January 4, 1949, in Morganton, NC, a daughter of Paul Martin Davis and Bythia Helen (Conley) Davis.
    Judy was a graduate of Marietta High School in 1967. She had worked for 31 years at Harmar Place starting as a Nurse’s Aide and later becoming the Activities Director. She loved to read books. She was a member of Lighthouse Baptist Church and was a spiritual woman.

  • Mary Wanda “Wandy” Belleville Yarzab Miller

    Mary Wanda Miller passed into the arms of her Lord Jesus on Saturday, January 23, 2021, at her home in Parkersburg, West Virginia. Mary Wanda Miller was born into this world as Norma Marie Morgan, daughter of the late Mildred L. Morgan Offenberger, in Marietta, Ohio, on June 3, 1928. She was raised and cared for by her adopted parents, Charles Jefferson and Mary Ellen Belleville, of Marietta, Ohio.
    Mary grew up on a farm where her playmates were Ranger, her pony; Lady, her Boston Terrier pup; Betty, her Jersey Cow; and many, many playful kitties. Little did she know at the time that someday in the future she would raise three daughters who would carry on her unconditional love of animals. In particular, horses, cows, dogs and kitties.     Debra “Debbie” Noland Nitsche, 61, of Marietta, OH, joined her family in heaven on Saturday, January 23rd, 2021 from the Harmar Place in Marietta. She was born May 23rd, 1959, in Marietta. Daughter of the late William E. Noland, Sr., and Roberta Lou Johnson Noland.
    Debbie worked as a teacher, education manager, and consultant for Washington/Morgan County Head Start from 1984-1994.
    Debbie loved History, Genealogy, and was a member of numerous historical societies. She was well known for her genealogy research, helping people from all over the world trace and connect their family lineage. Debbie was dedicated Phantoms and Flyers hockey fan, and loved going to games in Philadelphia.

    Larry Eugene Hockenberry, 78 of New Matamoras passed away at 10:30 pm, Thursday, January 21, 2021, at his home. He was born February 6, 1942, in Marietta a son of Lawrence Albert and Freda Mae Harris Hockenberry.
    Early in his career, Larry was employed at Washington County Chrysler Plymouth as a mechanic and was self employed in the logging business and owned his business, The Buggy Shop. He was a veteran of the U. S. Army and enjoyed coon hunting, fishing, fixing cars, trading and telling stories.
