  • Norman D. “Norm” Pape

    Norman D. “Norm” Pape, 79, of Marietta passed away Saturday evening, December 21, 2019, at Marietta Memorial Hospital. Norm was born July 27, 1940, in Marietta a son of George F. and Ruth L. Giffen Pape.
    Norm was a graduate of Marietta High School, Class of 1958, and Marietta College, Class of 1968. He was employed for 38 years as Controller at the Ford Dealership.

  • Margaret Westbrook

    Margaret Westbrook, 93, of Marietta passed away on Wednesday, December 18, 2019. She is survived by her husband of 72 years, Delbert Westbrook and her five children: Carolyn (Peter) Carr; Don (Cindy) Westbrook; David (Patricia) Westbrook; Darryl Westbrook and Tracy Campbell; and Carmen Westbrook.
    She was born October 4, 1926 to Leatha and Dow Athey of Zion Ridge. She was preceded in death by her parents and brother, Larry (June) Athey.

  • Larry “Scrapper” Leroy Carpenter

    Larry “Scrapper” Leroy Carpenter, 51, of Marietta passed away at his home after a short battle with cancer, surrounded by his family at 7:09 pm on Wednesday, December 18, 2019. He was born on April 30, 1968 in Marietta a son of Robert (Vickie) Carpenter, Sr. and Shirley Bailey Green of Parkersburg.
    Larry attended Marietta High School. He was most known for his love of the color pink, junking, and being outdoors. He enjoyed motorcycles, his 6 dogs, fishing, Tramps, Toy for Tots Toy-Run, VFW, and VGAP but most of all making kids happy. Larry loved Christmas, Christmas trees and playing Santa Claus.
    On September 12, 2014, he married his loving wife, Barbara Mugrage who survives with their daughter Kelly Mugrage. He is also survived by his brothers, Todd “Toddie” (Tina) Carpenter of Marietta, Robert Jr. (Brenda) Carpenter of Fayetteville, WV, and William (Melissa) Clendenin, Jr. of Mt. Lookout, WV; sisters: Penny (Scott) Reynolds of Williamstown, Shirley (Terry) Griffin of North Carolina, Susan (Jeff) Smith of Marietta, VickyAnn (Dana) Nixon of Danese, WV, and Patricia (Tim) Vance of Lewisburg, WV and many cousins, nieces and nephews.

    Dorothy M. Zimmer, 85, of Marietta passed away at 5:15am, Tuesday, December 17, 2019, at Marietta Memorial Hospital. She was born on April 11, 1934 in Washington County, OH, to Jacob F. and Laura Anna Wagner Zimmer.
    Dorothy was food service manager at Marietta Memorial Hospital and Camden Clark Memorial Hospital until her retirement. She was a member of St. Paul’s Evangelical Church.

  • Maxine Francis

    Maxine Francis, 95, of Marietta passed away 1:45 am on December 16, 2019 at the Arbors at Marietta.
    She was born July 28, 1924 in Marietta to John and Cora (Clark) Lincicome. She was a homemaker and a founding member of Faith Bible Church that would later merge with Evergreen Church to become Evergreen Bible Church.
    On September 28, 1946 she married Donald Francis who proceeded her in death on March 7, 2015.
    Surviving is her daughter Judy (Lloyd) Van Fossen of Marietta and grandchildren: Lisa (Jeff) Mattheiss, Jennifer (John) Sentell and Michael (Christy) Van Fossen and 6 great grandchildren.

    Clarence Emil Piatt, 96, of Rinard Mills passed away at 5:08 pm, Saturday, December 14, 2019, at The Arbors of Woodsfield. He was born June 3, 1923, in Rinard Mills to Thurman and Phena Jane Nalley Piatt.
    Clarence had been employed by River Gas Company until his retirement in 1984 and was a farmer and school bus driver.

  • Richard L. “Dick” Poole

    Richard L. “Dick” Poole, 86, of Reno passed away on Friday, December 13, 2019, at his home surrounded by his family. He was born July 4, 1933, in Reno, a son of Homer D. and Genevieve Wiggins Poole.
    He married Bessie Skinner Poole who preceded him in death in 2005. He loved and missed her so.
    Dick attended Sandhill School and Marietta High School. He enjoyed the reunions with his Sandhill friends. He was employed by Pattin Manufacturing, Washington County Highway Department, and Metaltech Corp. The relationships with his co-workers were very important to Dick and he enjoyed getting together with them, even into retirement.
