  • William J. “Bill” Cassady

    William J. “Bill” Cassady, 67, of Marietta passed away at 2:12 pm, Sunday, January 14, 2024, at OSU Medical Center in Columbus. He was born January 14, 1957, in Marietta a son of the late William and Maxine McCloud Cassady.
    Bill was employed as a Rental Car Manager at Bob Bingler Ford. He coached youth sports, and was part of the recovering community and attended many AA meetings until his health failed. He enjoyed Ohio State Football, playing Bingo and spending time with his family and his friends at The Arbors.

  • Leroy Eugene Hutchinson

    Leroy Eugene Hutchinson, 88, of Fleming, OH, passed away on Wednesday, January 10, 2024 at Camden Clark Hospital. He was born in Warren Township, OH, a son of the late William Hutchinson and Alice Robertson Hutchinson.
    He was a graduate of Marietta High School in 1953 and retired January 1990 from Union Carbide after 33 years of service. Leroy was a member of the Souls Harbor Baptist Church where he was involved with the Seed Line Ministries. He was a founding member of the Warren Township Volunteer Fire Department and was an avid outdoorsman, interested in hunting, fishing, camping, blackberry picking and forging for roots.

  • Lois Marie Holzapfel Grub

    Lois Marie Holzapfel Grub passed away at Harmar Place January 9th, 2024. She was born October 30th 1934 on Neville Island, PA.
    Lois was the third born and youngest child of Christy Wilhelm and Bessie Viola Tunney Holzapfel. She spent her early childhood growing up on Neville Island. PA. Her Daddy was transferred by his employer, Dravo Corp to Marietta, OH when Lois was 15. Her Parents rented a house on Second St in Marietta across from Becker’s Motors. Lois, new to the area with no friends would pass time by sitting on the front porch. It was this past-time that caught the eye of Clyde Grub who was employed by Becker Motors. Eventually he invited her to watch him play in a softball game. After acquiring permission from her parents, many ballgames were attended. Lois and Clyde were married October 14, 1951. They raised their three girls and made their home in the Oak Grove community for close to 60 years.

    Richard E. Reed, 99, of Marietta passed away on Tuesday, January 9, 2024 at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
    He was born at Marietta, a son of the late Frank M. and Bettie Reed. He was a graduate of Marietta High School and was retired from Union Carbide Power Station in 1981 after 29½ years of service.

    Linda Lou Bennett, 72, of Marietta passed away at 6:05 pm, Saturday. January 6. 2024, at Riverside Landing in McConnelsville.
    She was born June 2, 1951, in Parkersburg, WV, to Harry Huston and Etta Mae Harkins Huston. Linda was a homemaker.

  • Edsel Thomas Walters

    Edsel Thomas Walters, 96, of Marietta passed away on Wednesday, January 3, 2024, at Elison Assisted Living and Care. He was born May 31, 1927, in Marietta a son of Elmer and Freda Clasey Walters.
    Edsel left school early and joined the U. S. Navy serving during World War II on the Battleship Indiana and later on Troup Transport. After the service he returned to school and graduated from Marietta High School. He was an exceptional athlete, especially in track and played football and basketball. He was employed at B. F. Goodrich for 44 years until his retirement. Edsel was a founding member of the Marietta Beagle Club and was the last surviving charter member. He enjoyed hunting, watching football, bowling, fishing, collecting knives and dancing. But above all, he was a family man.

  • Willa J. Knowlton

    Willa J. Knowlton, 92, of Whipple passed away at 11:14 pm Monday January 1, 2024 at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
    She was born August 3, 1931 in Lower Salem to Charles and Myrtle (Holdren) Rhodes. Willa was a 1949 graduate of Salem Liberty High School, a homemaker and had been employed at Marietta College and Salem-Liberty Schools. She was a member of Twin Rivers Baptist Church. For many years Willa was a member of the Whipple Community Church where she played piano. Preparing food especially pies for others was a very important part of her life.
