  • Georgia Cunningham

    Georgia Cunningham, 86, of Lowell, Ohio passed away peacefully on February 15, 2024 at Waterview Pointe Nursing home with family at her side. She was born July 25, 1937 to the late George G. Jr and Martha Padgitt in Marietta, Ohio. Georgia always went by the name “Sis”. She always told the story she didn’t know her name was Georgia till third grade when her teacher told her. She graduated from Marietta High School in 1955. During high school she worked at the Colony Cinema and the Merryland pool at the Washington county Fairgrounds. After graduation Georgia worked at Remington Rand, where she remained for 27 years until retirement.
    Georgia loved living near the river in Lowell where she enjoyed riding on her pontoon boat. Her hobbies included reading, sewing, quilting, motorcycling, camping, bowling and spending time with family

  • Linda Ruth Treadway Schmitt

    Linda Ruth Schmitt, 78, of Marietta passed at 9:59 pm, on Thursday, February 15, 2024 at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
    She was born on September 9, 1945, in Middletown, Ohio to Verley L. Treadway and Laura E. Dietz Treadway. Linda’s main love was being a mother and homemaker. She had owned and operated a sewing shop in Waterford and had been a police dispatcher in Beverly.

  • Kim Sanford McGrew

    Kim Sanford McGrew of Marietta OH passed away peacefully at home on February 12, 2024. She was born in Wilmington DE in 1933 and lived in Hanford WA and Charleston WV before moving to Marietta in 1969. Kim was a graduate of the University of Kentucky where she majored in journalism, and she later obtained a Masters of Liberal Learning in Library Science from Marietta College. She worked for many years at Campus Martius Museum, where she led tours, helped people with their genealogy and generally kept the place running smoothly.
    Kim was preceded in death by her husband of 60 years, John Douglass McGrew. She is survived by her sister Julie Moore of Portland OR and by her cousin April Mapes of Chagrin Falls OH. She has four surviving children: Sarah, Virginia, Robert (Jennifer) and Duncan (Nancy). She is the grandmother to Clinton, Mohammed, Saratu, Hamza, John, Matthew, Grant and Owen, as well as six great grandchildren. She was a devoted mother and grandmother, saying she would go to hell if her children would be there.
    A long-time sports fan, Kim loved to watch the UK Wildcats on TV. She played tennis well into her 80s and enjoyed bicycling on several European vacations. In addition to family, she loved her pets. You could often see her walking one of her many dogs in the Devola neighborhood. She also enjoyed her bridge group, bird watching, Learning in Retirement classes and Reading Club.
    Kim was a talented artist. She hooked rugs which are stunning in their beauty and craftsmanship. She also enjoyed other crafts such as knitting and cross stitch. She played the piano beautifully.

  • Louis F. Morris

    Louis F. Morris, 97, of New Matamoras passed away at 8:30pm, Thursday, February 8, 2024 at Marietta Memorial Hospital. He was born July 17, 1926, in East Liverpool, OH a son of Floyd and Ada Sine Morris.
    Louis was a carpenter and farmer and loved tinkering in his woodshop and mowing the yards. He was veteran of the U. S. Army, WWII 1945-1946, Sergeant of Military Police, Buck Sergeant, Sergeant of Arms, Marksman Shooter, Honor Flight Columbus Mission #114, 5-12-2022, and Washington County Veteran’s Hall of Fame November 1, 2022.

    Wrenley Ray Anne Carpenter, passed away February 8, 2024.  She was born February 8, 2024 to Jakob and Madison (Ware) Carpenter.
    In addition to her parents Wrenley is survived by her brother Barhett Carpenter, 6 grandparents, 10 great grandparents and 1 great great grandparent.  Also surviving are 3 uncles, 3 aunts and a cousin.

  • Roy Edgar McCammon

    Roy Edgar McCammon passed away peacefully on February 7th, 2024 at 87 years young in Beverly, Ohio at the Muskingum Valley Nursing and Rehabilitation center with his family by his side.
    He was born in Woodsfield, Ohio on October 5th, 1936. Going on to attend The Ohio State University from 1954 to 1958 graduating with a Bachelors of Science in Geology. While attending Ohio State he met his wife Mary Thorniley and moved back to her hometown of Marietta, Ohio in 1961.

  • Gene Edwin “Smiley” Hesson

    Gene Edwin “Smiley” Hesson, 83, of Whipple, passed away on Friday, February 2, 2024, at his home surrounded by his loving family.
    Gene attended Dexter City High School. He served 4 years in the Marines at Camp Lejeune, SC, where his duties included supply truck driver. After an Honorable Discharge, he returned home and continued his trade as a self employed semi-truck driver.
