  • Matthew L. “Matt” Simmons

    Matthew L. Simmons, 60, of Reno (Marietta) passed away at his home Sunday, August 13, 2023. He was born in Marietta on March 24, 1963 a son of late Lewis and Mary Seevers Simmons.
    Matt was a graduate of Marietta High School and had served Washington County as a Deputy Sheriff for over 30 years. In his retirement he enjoyed gardening, making hot pepper dust, taking walks with his dog, riding his 4-wheeler, working on his tractor and especially playing with his grandson. Matt never met a stranger.

  • Sarah Mae Hoover Buchert

    Sarah Mae (Hoover) Buchert, 96, organist at Christ United Methodist Church from 1949 to 2016, passed away peacefully in her beloved apartment at The Pines of Glenwood in Marietta, OH, on Tuesday, August 8, 2023.
    She was born on December 1, 1926, to The Rev. Dr. Leonard H. and Esther W. Hoover in McKeesport, PA. She graduated from Connellsville (PA) High School on D-Day, 1944, and then went onto Ohio Wesleyan University in Delaware, OH, graduating in 1948. Sarah earned a Bachelor of Music in music education, sacred music, and organ; was honored with membership in Mu Phi Epsilon music honorary; and was an alum of Alpha Gamma Delta sorority. After coming to Marietta, she was an elementary vocal music teacher at several Washington County schools for 39 years and was also an in-home organ and piano teacher through the years. In 1965 she founded and began directing the Cathedral Handbell Choir at Christ Church in addition to her organ worship leadership. For 60 years, Sarah and Roger resided at 211 Walnut Drive in Devola where they raised Jeff.
    In 2003, Sarah was preceded in death by her husband, Roger D. Buchert of Marietta, whom she met at OWU and married at First (Christ United) Methodist Church in Marietta on June 19, 1949. Her father co-officiated the ceremony. Also preceding her in death were her parents and brother, Rev. Charles (Tina) Hoover, of California.

  • Douglas G. Snider Sr.

    Douglas G. Snider Sr., 70, passed away on August 6, 2023 at his home. Funeral services will be held on Saturday (August 12) at 11:00 am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with burial following in Gravel Bank Cemetery. Family will greet friends at the funeral home on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8.
    Following the graveside service, a celebration of his life will be held at the Warren Township Volunteer Fire Department

  • James “Isaac” Peck

    James “Isaac” Peck, 21 of Waterford, Oh, passed on August 2nd 2023 leaving many heavy hearts.
    He is survived by his loving parents, Gary and Amber Peck, His little sister Anna, his Girlfriend of 5 years Jasmine, his Grandparents, Darrell and Rita Peck, Zane and Debbie Pritchett and his best friend/ chosen brother Clayton Joy, and too many other friends and family to name.
    He was born May 24, 2002 as a result of his parents love for each other and he became the center of their young world, which expanded with the birth of his beautiful sister Anna.
    Raised on the family’s farm Isaac loved all things country. As a boy, Isaac loved reading and science. Wednesday evening viewings of NOVA turned into family events, science camps, and bedtime stories that tested the limits of his momma’s pronunciation skills because only Dinosaur encyclopedias would do.

    Joyce A Glasser, 92, of Marietta passed away peacefully on July 28, 2023 at Ruby Memorial Hospital.
    She was born in Columbus on April 17, 1931 to Howard and Leone (McBride) Wallace. Joyce enjoyed working with ceramics and bowling when she was younger, but really just loved be a homemaker to her children and grandchildren and socializing with her church family.

    Marilyn A. Wagner, 85, of Marietta passed away at 10:34 pm, Tuesday, July 25, 2023.
    She was born June 24, 1938 in Marietta a daughter of Roy Lewis and Mary Catherine Liston Spindler. Marilyn had been employed by Fenton Art Glass and was a member of Wagner Union Church.
