Jerry David McGee, Sr., 76, of Marietta passed away May 31, 2023, at Waterview Pointe. He was born February 7, 1947, in Marietta to Roy Edward McGee and Clarice Wilson McGee.
Jerry was employed at Nutters Heating and Air Conditioning. He liked to collect coins, antiques and Marietta History and enjoyed playing cards.
Jeffrey Michael Covey, age 65, died suddenly and unexpectedly from a cardiac event in Ocala, Florida on May 28, 2023. Jeff was born in Marietta, Ohio on January 11, 1958, to Donna (Sutton) Pugh and the late Dick Covey. Jeff attended Marietta High School and then honorably served his country in the United States Army for three years overseas and stateside before returning to Marietta where he worked for several decades at RJF International (formerly BFGoodrich).
Jeff was the proud father of Audrey (Scot) Caley of Pittsboro, Indiana, and Joshua (Lindsey) Covey of Scottsdale, Arizona. He was a loving grandfather to Lynlea, Samuel, and Luke Caley, Stella Covey, and he was excitedly anticipating his fifth grandchild on the way.
Michael Lee Rice, 71, of Marietta, peacefully passed away Monday, May 22, 2023 at home surrounded by family after a long courageous battle with cancer. He was born September 30, 1961, a son of Robert (Red) and Margaret (Peg) Boston Rice in Wheeling , WV and raised in Sistersville.
Mike retired from Solvay Advanced Polymers as Lab Technician. He was past owner of Mike’s Sport Bar and Mr. Pizza in St. Mary’s and Parkersburg, WV. Although cut short, Mike fulfilled his dream of retiring to fish from his dock and boat on the Gulf in Port Charlotte, Florida.
Joni Renee Borman, 63, of Marietta passed away May 16, 2023 at Riverside Landing Nursing and Rehab in McConnellsville.
She was born in Marietta on September 28, 1959 to Jerry and Mary (Taylor) Borman. Renee was a Marietta High School graduate and a veteran of the US Army.
Curt Edward Shaw, 63, of Marietta passed away May 8, 2023 in Newark, Ohio, at Select Specialty Hospital. He was born on April 4, 1960, in Columbus, Ohio, a son of James A. Shaw and Mary K. Hannum Shaw.
Curt was a graduate of Marietta High School and was a member of Highland Ridge Community Church. He was employed by Washington Electric Cooperative.
Frederick Clarence Sims, 97, of Fleming passed away Monday, May 8, 2023, at Highland Oaks Health Center in McConnelsville.
He was born on August 17, 1925 in Wood County, WV, to the late William and Lilly Sims. Before his retirement, Mr. Sims was employed as a certified welder and machinist.
Doris “Dee” Blair Smits, 82, of Sun Lakes, Arizona, passed away on Tuesday, May 2, 2023.
She was born on January 2, 1941, in Washington County, OH, a daughter of Marion A. Blair and Blanche Wallenfeltz Blair. Dee was employed by State Farm Insurance before her retirement.
