Sarah Jennewein Showalter-Moore, 81, of Belpre, OH, was called home by the Lord on March 23, 2022.
She was born Jan. 13, 1941, at New Martinsville, WV, the daughter of Leonard and Ireta Cook Jennewein. Sarah attended Powhatan schools and graduate from Powhatan High School in 1959. Sarah was a 55-year member of Marietta Bible Center Church.
Dora Jeanne McAtee of Marietta passed away at Harmar Convalescent Center on Friday, March 18, 2022 at 98 years old. She was born on January 27, 1924 in Marietta to Pearly Leroy Brown, sr. and Nora Ethel Schaffer Brown.
During WWII, she joined women in the factory workforce and for many years was one of the smiling faces in Brownies Donut and Pastry Shop, her family’s bakery. Wanting warm weather and sunshine, she retired to Florida in 1979 and moved back to Marietta in 2002 to be closer to her siblings. She devoted her life to loving and helping her family and friends.
Birdie Lou Allebaugh, 88, of Marietta, Ohio passed away March 16, 2022 at home Birdie was a loving and devoted mother and friend to all whose lives she touched. Birdie was born on August 12, 1933 in Coal Run to Belva and Burt Miller.
She is preceded in death by her six older siblings. Birdie married the late Lester E. Allebaugh on January 15, 1950. They had two children, one daughter Julia (Terry Cramer) and one son Leslie Allebaugh, one granddaughter Cathleen D. Hockenberry-Harlow (James Harlow),one great granddaughter Alicia Hockenberry.
Larry D. Burton, 69, of Williamstown, WV passed away on Monday, March 14, 2022, at Milestone Senior Living in Parkersburg. He was born March 16, 1952, a son of the late Fred and Betty G. Bloomingdale Burton.
Larry graduated Marietta High School in 1971. He was in the Army Reserve, Army National Guard and Navy Reserve for a total of 25 years. He had been employed at Remington Rand/Kardex, Airolite, PCI Mineral Wells and at the Williamstown Fire Department for 9 years. He was a member of American Legion Post 159 at Williamstown.
Rose Marie Christopher Warden, 66, of Barnett Ridge died in her home in Fleming Ohio at 5 p.m. on Monday, March 14th 2022 from a long battle with cancer.
She was born March 28th 1955 in Mason City West Virginia, a daughter of Lonnie Christopher and Ollie White Christopher. She worked at Big Lots in Marietta for 14 years, and was a devoted housewife, mother, and grandmother for 46 years.
She enjoyed gardening, crocheting, jigsaw puzzles and spending time with her family.
Norma Ruth Shimp Warden, 88, of Williamstown passed away on Saturday, March 12, 2022 at Belpre Landings. She was born October 16, 1933 in Elba, OH, the oldest daughter of William V. and Bertha M. Hesson Shimp.
On September 8, 1957, she married Ralph W. Warden who preceded her in death in December 1996. Norma worked as an aide in the nursery at Marietta Memorial Hospital after graduation in 1951 from Marietta High School. She had also worked as a bookkeeper for Sterling Service Store and as an office and medical assistant for Dr. William Stewart and Dr. T. P. Lee.
Elizabeth (Beth) M. Lathey, 70, of Williamstown passed into the arms of Jesus March 10, 2022. She was born July 13, 1951 to Olin D. and Thelma (Mossor) Grove.
Beth graduated from Tyler County High School in 1969 and then worked 12 years as a legal secretary for Law firms in Fairmont, WV and Marietta, OH. Beth then realized her dream of going to college, graduating in 3 1/2 years Summa Cum Laude with a degree In Elementary Education from Glenville State College in 1985.
