Alfred Edward “Ed” Venham
Alfred Edward "Ed" Venham, 82 of Marietta, Ohio passed away at home on May 18, 2014 following an extended illness with his family by his side.
He was born December 21, 1931 in Vincent, Ohio to Hazel Beck and Charles Alfred Venham. Ed was a 1949 Vincent High School Graduate and he enlisted in the United States Army March 1954. He was stationed in Germany with the 2nd Armored Division "HELL ON WHEELS" as an equipment recovery specialist and was honorably discharged July 14, 1956.
Ed became a member of the local Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Post 5108 in 1965. In 1969 Ed became a life member of the VFW and was a member for 49 years. During his 49-year tenure Ed served in many positions within the VFW to include Chaplain, Junior Vice Commander, Senior Vice Commander, Commander and he completed 30 years as the VFW Quartermaster. Ed also served as an honor guard and called Bingo for the VFW.
Ed worked as a Body Shop Manager for over 40 years for a local Chevrolet Dealership.
Ed is survived by his wife Sharon L. Carver Moore Venham and her children Jennifer Lee Richards, Todd Everett Moore and Rodney Raymond Moore. Ed is also survived by his five children Edward Douglas Venham (Debbie) of Belpre, Ohio, Richard Lee Venham (Susan) of Marietta, Ohio, Cathy Lynn Clegg of Marietta, Ohio, Alfred Eugene Venham (Sandy) of Marietta, Ohio, and William Ross Venham (Jane) of Belpre, Ohio. He is also survived by three sisters Vernice Best of Marietta, Ohio, Rita Stack of Fleming, Ohio, Millie (Robert) Clark of Whipple, Ohio,
Ed has eleven grandchildren Richard Edward Venham, James Edward Venham, Angela Yvonne Baker, Michelle Leigh Hunt, Tinika Dawn Venham, Stacy Lynn Bell, Scott Allen Venham, Cody Aaron Venham, Alisha May Venham, Joshua David Clegg and Tessa Nichole Venham. 12 Great Grandchildren Logan Nicholas Morris, Caden James Venham, Taylor Edward Venham, Angel Rose Venham, Alyssa Shea Baker, Colten Issac Baker, Ashley Nicole Grimes, Austin Levi Grimes, Natalie Jane Bell, Seth Tyler Cunningham, Brittany Nicole Venham and Baby Boy Caleb Venham expected June 29, 2014.
In addition to his parents Ed was preceded in death by 2 grandchildren Julius Edward Venham and Shawn Lee Venham, and brothers and sisters Donald Venham, Frankie Venham, Maxine Venham, Mary Strickler, Carmen Brown, Evelyn Francis and Pauline Haught.
Funeral services will be held 11 am Thursday, May 22nd at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Pastor Scott Shawver Officiating. Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park with full military rites. Friends may call from 2 pm Wednesday with the family present from 2-4 and 6-8.
