Berneice “Bernie” Carpenter DeLong
Berneice “Bernie” Carpenter DeLong, age 93, died peacefully in her home in Marietta on Sunday January 26, 2014. Born to Anna Kathryn (Stegner) and Everett Carpenter, Bernie was a lifelong resident of Marietta, OH.
She is survived by her daughter, Susan (husband John) Gunther, nieces Judy (David) Lawson and Pamela (Tommy) Honey of Alabama.
She was predeceased by her husband Richard W. DeLong, her parents, sister Edna Erma Reynolds, and brother Raymond Stegner,
Recently she flourished living at Hannah's House, making new friends and rediscovering old interests. She was a member of 6th & Washington Church of Christ.
Following retirement from Marietta College after 20 years serving as payroll clerk she enjoyed volunteering. She took pleasure in nearly 20 years volunteering for Marietta Memorial Hospital, was a regular at Thursday afternoon card games at the O'Neill Center, and in years past volunteered for Buckeye Hills Resource Conservation & Development Council,
Bernie graduated from Marietta High School then briefly lived in Washington, DC during World WarII.
The family wishes to thank special friends and family for enriching her final days: Judy Lawson, Brenda McNutt, Ray and Amy Jackson, H. John Nash, DO, Verna Perrin and Valerie Adkins (& family) of Hannah’ s House, Nancy Ottman, Vicky Ottman, Roger Rush (6th & Washington Church of Christ} and Marietta (Amedysis) Hospice.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (Jan29) at 1:30 pm at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Roger Rush officiating. Friends may call at the funeral home on Wednesday from 11:00 until 1:30. Burial will be in Riverview Cemetery. Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.lankfordfh.com.
