Bessie Jane Hoff Bohle

Bessie Jane Hoff Bohle born February 24, 1917 passed April 22, 2010, was a longtime member of the Norwood United Methodist Church.

Bessie was preceded in death by parents Harry Maxon and Julia (Weinstock) Hoff, husband William H Bohle, siblings Wilbur (Mildred) Hoff, Harold (Lucille) Hoff, Dollie (Taylor) Rice, Leona (Howard) Miller, Floyd (Lillian) Hoff, and Francis (Howard) Moran. She is survived by step children Robert (Suzanne) Bohle, William Bohle, Vivian (Mike) Lehan, Donna Fernandez, nieces and nephews Janet Hoff Bowles, Jeane (Robert) Highberger, Richard (Baunelle) Hoff, Floyd (Kathleen) Hoff, Terry (Andrea) Hoff, Harry (Sharon) Hoff, great nephews, Steven Bowles (and Archie, Arf, Arf), Thomas and Mark Kelly, Jim and Rich Hoff, and numerous great nieces and nephews.

Bessie enjoyed her childhood on the family farm at Moss Run, Ohio. The family later moved to Marietta where she graduated from Marietta High School.  Early in her career Bessie was employed by the Marietta S.S. Kresge Store.  In the early 40’s, she headed to Columbus for a wartime job on the SB2C “Helldiver” assembly line at Curtiss-Wright.  After the war she became Head Cashier and Office Manager at the first (Lane Ave) Big Bear Store, where she remained until retirement. Longing for home, family and small town life, Bessie and beloved husband Bill, settled into their Lincoln Circle home, surrounded by the “best neighbors anyone could have.

She is remembered as a dear friend to so many and for her great kindness and generosity

Donations can be made to the Norwood United Methodist Church, 23 Colegate Drive Marietta, OH  or the Humane Society of the Ohio Valley, Mt. Tom Rd., Marietta, OH, 45750, in lieu of flowers.

The viewing will be Monday from 2 to 4 and 6 to 8pm, followed by a 1pm funeral service on Tuesday at the McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral  Home, 314 4th Street, Marietta, (740) 373-9232.  Burial will follow at the East Lawn Memorial Park, Marietta, Ohio.
