Billy Lee Douthitt

Billy Lee Douthitt, 84, of Lowell, OH, formerly longtime resident of Marietta, OH, went to be with the lord on September 21,2025. He was born on August 16, 1941, in Marietta, to the late Millard and Margaret Douthitt.
Billy was a 1959 graduate of Marietta High School who went on to proudly serve his country in the U.S. Air Force. Billy later worked for Amoco, where he retired after many dedicated years. He was a man of many interests, a member of the Christ United Methodist Church, the American Legion Post 64, and longtime member of the National Hot Rod Association (NHRA).
On January 4, 1964, Billy married the love of his life, Phyllis King. They were happily married for 61 years during which they built a life filled with love, laughter, and adventure. He is survived by his wife, Phyllis, their children, Kelly (Charles) Wilson of New Milford, CT, Brian (Emily) Douthitt of Beverly, OH; grandchildren, Emily (James) Buck and Olivia Wilson; and great-grandchildren, Owen and Lilah Buck, who were the light of his life. He also leaves behind several beloved nieces and nephews.
He lived a life full of energy, curiosity, and love. He shared a passion for drag racing with his son and working on cars together. He spent many years giving back to the community through coaching several youth sports teams. He also enjoyed playing softball in the “Old Timers” league in Marietta. Over the years, he found joy in golfing, fishing, and cheering on his beloved Ohio State Buckeyes.
He and Phyllis enjoyed traveling and taking family vacations while their children were growing up. Billy also had a lifelong love of history and was always eager to learn and share what he discovered. Animals held a special place in his heart, and he cared for many beloved pets over the years.
Of all his passions, Billy’s greatest joy came from his family. He adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, never missing a chance to brag about them and share how proud he was. His love for them—and for all those close to him—will be the legacy he leaves behind.
Billy was preceded in death by his parents; two brothers, Bernard and Melvin; and one sister, Bonnie Ridgeway.
Friends and family are invited to celebrate Billy’s life at McClure-Schafer- Lankford Funeral Home, 314 Fourth Street Marietta, OH. Visitation will be held on Friday, September 26th from 9:00 AM to 11:00 AM followed by a funeral service at 11:00 AM.
