Cecil Schenkel

Cecil Schenkel, 87, of Whipple passed away on Monday, June 15, 2009, at 6:20 am at Marietta Memorial Hospital.

He was born on March 31, 1922, a son of Otto and May Adams Schenkel.  Cecil attended Wingett Run Grade School and Salem High School, and had been employed as a school bus driver for Fort Frye School District, was a farmer, had been employed by John Rech Farm Equipment, and had been a Trustee for Salem Township.  After retiring, he enjoyed woodworking, hanging out with friends at Bill Kidds Barber Shop and tractor pulls and gardening.

On June 5, 1943, Cecil married Edna Carpenter.  They recently celebrated their 66th wedding anniversary.  In addition to his wife, he is survived by their daughter Shirley Hockenberry of Whipple; 3 grandchildren:  Robert (Ann) Hockenberry of Mineral Wells, Brenda (Dan) Waterman of Lower Salem, and Rick (Christy) Hockenberry of Lowell.  Also surviving are:  sister Ruth Biehl, sisters-in-law Betty Schenkel and Erma Carpenter, great grandchildren:  James and Nicholas Brown, Daniel Waterman, Anna and Aaron Hockenberry, step grandchildren:  Jayme (Chad) Fox and Heather (David) Naper, step great grandchildren, Blake and Cory Fox, and several nieces and nephews.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his brother Harry, sister Katherine Becker, infant sister Mildred, son-in-law Ronald Hockenberry.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday (June 18th) at 2:00 pm at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home.  Burial will be in Salem Township Cemetery.  Friends may call at the funeral home beginning on Tuesday evening at 6 with family present from 6-8 and on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8.  Contributions in Cecil’s memory made to Salem Fire Department will be appreciated.
