Charles W. Grimes

Charles W. Grimes, 90, of Marietta passed away at 5:00 am, January 2, 2018, at Marietta Center. He was born May 31, 1927, in St. Marys, WV, a son of Alonzo and Sarah Lightner Grimes.

Charles attended St. Marys School. He had served in the U. S. Army and worked for Marietta Country Club for 40 years as a grounds keeper.

On July 12, 1947, he married Ethel Lee Grimes who preceded him in death on September 1, 2005. Charles is survived by his son Roger (Dottie) Grimes of Williamstown, daughters, Bonnie (Jerry) Godfrey of New Matamoras and Linda (Rick) Farley of Marietta; grandchildren: Jason and Billy Godfrey, Melissa (Brad) Zoller, Bambi (Brad) Oliver, Joshua Miller; 11 great grandchildren and 2 great, great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, 1 brother and 3 sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Friday (Jan. 5) at 11:00 am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Pastor Gordie Deer officiating. Interment will follow in Newport Cemetery.
