Charles William “Bill” Rummer

Charles William “Bill” Rummer, 83, passed away peacefully in Cincinnati, Ohio on Thursday, November 6, 2014, from complications of Alzheimer’s Disease.  Bill is survived by his son Keith, daughter-in-law Kate, grandchildren Caroline and Carter, brother Ronald Rummer and sister-in-law Sandy Rummer.  He is predeceased by his wife, Shirley Rummer, who passed away in 2010.

Bill was born in and lived most of his life in Marietta, and was a member of the Marietta High School class of 1948.  He was proud of his service in the Army National Guard.  Bill was a lifetime member and former Exalted Ruler of the Benevolent Protective Order of Elks, Lodge 477.  For most of his life Bill worked in automotive sales at Pioneer Chevrolet and New Weihl Oldsmobile.  In semi-retirement he served as the transportation director for the O’Neill Senior Center in Marietta.  

For many years Bill could be seen walking the streets of downtown Marietta and Devola, smiling and waving at all passersby.  Before his health declined in recent years, Bill enjoyed attending his grandchildren’s sporting events, school plays, recitals, etc. 

  Funeral services will be held 1 pm Tuesday, November 11, 2014, at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with burial following in Greenlawn Cemetery.  Friends may call on Tuesday from 11 am until the hour of service. Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.Lankfordfh.com.
