Charles William Johnson

Charles William Johnson, 87, of Lowell, passed away on Saturday, May 4, 2013, at Marietta Memorial Hospital.  He was born at Chester, Ohio, on December 14, 1925, a son of Charles Francis and Lu Stella White Johnson.  

He was a millwright (Charlie Chopper) at Union Carbide/Elkem Metals retiring in 1983, a veteran of World War II, and a member of River of Life Assembly of God where he was a deacon, Sunday School teacher, greeter and with his wife dedicated in service to God.
 
On April 17, 1947, he married the love of his life,  Amy Faye Hinzman Johnson who preceded him in death on March 29, 2013.
 
Charles loved the outdoors and was an avid hunter, loved farming, his family and neighbors.  He loved recounting life happenings in minute detail and was quick to lend a helping hand to anyone in need.
 
Charles is survived by 2 daughters and 4 sons:  Shirley (Bob) Irish of Attica, OH, Larry (Kathleen) Johnson of Belpre,  Wes (friend Patty) Johnson of Lowell, Bill (Connie) Johnson of Lowell, Steve (Tamera) Johnson of Lowell, Rhonda (Albert) Hendershot of Waterford; grandchildren:  Sonya and Tony Parsons, Lori, Rob, Shane and Tim Johnson, Alisha Schaad, Autumn Rosenbohm, Gabe Lucas;  18 great grandchildren; 3 great, great grandchildren, and a very special aunt, Dorothy Christopher.  He is also survived by his brother Carl Johnson of Warren, OH, stepbrother Dave Bradley of Marietta, and sister Lillie Marie Johnson of Lowell and several nieces and nephews.
 
He was preceded in death by his parents, wife, grandson James Edward Parsons, brother Alfred Ray Johnson, and sister Wilma Mae Johnson; stepbrothers, Dwight Eldridge Bradley and Orville Bradley. 
 
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday (May 8) at 10:30 am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with burial in East Lawn Memorial Park.  Friends may call at the funeral home on Tuesday afternoon after 2:00 with family present from 2-4 & 6-8.  Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.lankfordfh.com.
