Clayton M. “Bud” Noland
Clayton Marlin "Bud" Noland, 83, of Marietta, Ohio passed away at 8:20 pm on Tuesday, June 21, 2016 at Marietta Memorial Hospital.
He was born August 10, 1932, in Marietta to Clayton Ameul and Maysel Maggie Drake Noland. He was raised in Constitution with his sisters Guelda Noland Wigal, who passed away April 2012, and Shirley Jean, lost to Scarlet fever in November 1939 as a toddler. Clayton attended Green Hill School in Constitution and Marietta High School.
Clayton chose to leave school early and join the Army. He served 1949-1952 as part of the 3rd lnfantry 15th Regiment division with time in Korea. He was awarded the Korean War Combat Infantry Badge. After leaving the Army, he served from 1954-1956 in the Navy Reserves in Columbus, Ohio. Clayton was retired from Plumbers & Pipefitters Local 168 after 50 years of service. Clayton enjoyed pitching horseshoes, even holding tournaments at his home, and qualified and competed in the World Horse Shoe pitching championships in 1992. Member of the American Legion in Beverly, VFW Post 5108 in Marietta, past president of VFW Post 1508 Motorcycle Club and H.O.G member. After retirement, Clayton traveled all across the United States on his Harley and collected antique cars, including 1954 Ford Crestline "Betty Boop" convertible, 1929 Model A Ford, and a ’46 Ford Coupe.
On October 3, 1953, Clayton married Marilyn Ann Morris in Marietta. They had 2 sons: Rick (Vivian) Noland of Stockport and Scott Noland (10/4/56-9/2/09). After Marilyn's death on February 4, 1970, Clayton married Wilma Ann McKnight and had a son Michael (Patti) Noland of Marietta. Wilma passed away 8/11/09. Surviving also are 6 grandchildren: Stephanie (Mike) Sydenstricker , Carrie (Brad) Antill, Jessie (Shaunte) Noland, Marilyn (Bill) Callahan, David Noland, and Kayla Cleveland. 2 step grandchildren: Caitlin (fiancé Morgan Dyar) Schilling and Brandon Schilling, and 10 great grandchildren: Lana, Lexie, and Lynsie Sydenstricker, Ayanna and Maxwell Noland, Dawson and Wyatt Hannan, Madysen, Clayton and Chloe Callahan, Wyatt Scott Noland.
Funeral services will be held at on Saturday (June 25) at 10:00 am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Pastor Earl James. Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park with full military rites. Family will greet friends at the funeral home on Friday from 2-4 & 6-8. Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.Lankfordfh.com.
