CTMCM-E9 Dwight Oliver Nichols, 84, of Marietta, passed away June 11, 2013 at Harmar Place.
Dwight was born June 14, 1928 at Macksburg to Ada L. (Oliver) and Albert L. Nichols. He married Glenna R. McGrew on December 19, 1948. They had a daughter Rona Arlane Slaboda (Paul) and a son Donald Alva Nichols. Also surviving are grandchildren Penny Anne Slaboda (Jim Smith) and Stephen Lewis Slaboda (Beth) and great grandchildren Zoe and one due in September, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents and a sister Ruth Knudtson.
While in the Navy he was stationed at Bainbridge, MD, on the USS Missouri (BB63), served as an instructor at Great Lakes, IL, Guam, Cheltenham, MD Cyprus, Cheltenham, England, Morocco, Turkey, Portsmouth, VA, Homestead, FL, USNS PVT Jose F. Valdez, Japan, Washington D.C., Bremerhaven, Germany and retired at Homestead FL. Dwight worked for Florida Power and Light Company for 18 year before retiring January 1, 1989.
Dwight was a Red Cross Volunteer and a Volunteer worker for Gold Coast Railroad Museum, Miami-Dade and as a fireman, conductor and engineer.
Funeral services will be held on Monday (June 17) at 1:00 pm at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Pastor Gene Ferrell officiating. Burial will follow in East Lawn Memorial Park.
