Dean A Zimmer
Dean A Zimmer, 84, of Marietta passed away on Wednesday, March 14, 2012.
He was born April 17, 1927 in Marietta, to the late George D. and Ida C. Zimmer. Dean was a 1945 graduate of Marietta High School, and a veteran of the US Army and served in Germany during WWII. He had been employed at Berg-Wilbert Vault Company, Washington County Soil Conservation Service and Zimmer Brothers Construction, before retiring from the US Postal Service. He was a member of St. Paul’s United Church of Christ, Pioneer Squares, Whipple Grange, and the American Legion. Dean also served as a board member for Washington County Landmark and the Washington County Soil Conservation. He enjoyed spending time with his family, traveling, bird watching, steam trains, antique farm equipment, announcing tractor pulls, carpentry and had a passion for agriculture.
His loving wife of 57 years, Rita Marie McAtee preceded him in death on November 7, 2004.
Surviving are children Steven (Mary) Zimmer of Lowell, Debra Zimmer of Chicago, IL, and James Zimmer of Whipple. Also surviving are grandchildren: Kara (Jeff) Roof of Lowell, Matthew Zimmer of Reno, Joshua (Nicole) Zimmer of Lowell, Leigh Anne Zimmer of Saltsburg, PA, Zachary (Megan) Zimmer of Pittsburgh, PA, Caytlin Zimmer of Marietta, Rylee Zimmer and Eric Zimmer both of Whipple along with great granddaughters: Anastasia and Avery Roof, and Maci and Madi Zimmer and special friend Betty Rolfe.
Funeral services will be held 10:30 am Saturday, March 17th at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home with Neil Parsons officiating. Burial will follow in Mound Cemetery with full military rites. Friends may call at the funeral home from 2 pm on Friday with the Family present from 2-4 and 6-8.
Memorial contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of his wife, Rita.
