Dennie R. Burchett, Jr., 76, of Marietta passed away on Sunday, April 21, 2024, At Elison @ Marietta. He was born May 15, 1947, in Marietta a son of the late Dennie R. Burchett and Clara Louise Biehl Burchett.

Dennie was a graduate of Marietta High School and received a BS in Petroleum Geology from Marietta College. He was first employed at Broughton Foods Company and later operated Broughton Brothers Oil and Gas, Front Four Gas and Burchett-Haynes Oil and Gas with Larry Haynes.

During the years his daughters were in involved in sports, he coached softball and basketball for Marietta City Schools, was a member of MHS Athletic Boosters Board and an advisor for Junior Achievement. He was also an active member of East Muskingum Civic Association, a Marietta Country Club Board Member and a past member of Marietta Boat Club. He was a member of Masonic Lodge, York Rite, Washington County Shrine Club and Royal Order of Jesters #156. Dennie served on the Selby General Hospital Board of Directors and then after the merger, he spent several years on the Marietta Memorial Hospital Board of Directors.

Dennie enjoyed supporting his children and grandchildren in their activities. His hobbies included golfing, hunting, boating and traveling.

Dennie is survived by his daughters: Tracey (Denny) Sollon of Venetia, PA, Denise Wheeler of Marietta and Kristy (Brian) Anderson of Columbus: grandchildren: Christen and Jake Sollon, Derek and Meghan Wheeler, Kelsi, Alex and Brady Anderson; great grandchildren Harper and Phoenix Wheeler. He is also survived by his sister, Sheila (Denny) Lankford and several cousins, nieces and nephews.

He is preceded in death by his parents, grandson Blake Waite and his sister, Marilyn Davis.

The family would like to extend their “thanks” to Amedysis and Elison Assisted Living for their care during his extended illness.

As Dennie was involved and loved youth sports, in lieu of flowers, donations will be appreciated in his name be made to Marietta Community Foundation, P O Box 77, Marietta, OH 45750.

Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, May 21 at 11:00 am at McClure-Schafer-Lankford Funeral Home. Family will greet friends on Monday from 4 until 7 at the funeral home with a Masonic service at 7:00 pm. Messages of sympathy may be sent at www.Lankfordfh.com
